This works for some other critters, but hang out in the same room as her and have a phone conversation and/or do something (like crocheting?). Eventually the cat will get used to your presence and will become a little more comfortable with you around.

Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
maybe put her on the pillow next to you when you go to sleep. when i found my cat as a kitten, she was very friendly even thought she was a stray, but she wasnt sure what to make of her new environment. i set her on the pillow next to me & went to sleep. when i woke up the next morning, she was still there & using her paws to close my nose. i guess she didnt like my snoring.

Catnip. Go to Aqualand and ask for Catnip Budz. It's grown right here in DSM and it's the most potent catnip I've run into. Your cat will go nuts as soon as it catches a wiff. This shit is so good I've been tempted to smoke it. Don't get that cheap ass Hartz shit from the grocery store. It's the catnip equivilant of ditchweed.JillJillJill wrote:but she's super super shy. A can of tuna also helps with a skittish cat. Make sure you get the tuna packed in water. The stuff packed in oil will make your cat sick
I poop on Petland!
Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
Buy catnip? You can go outside and pick catnip anywhere in Iowa. Notice the rounded edges of the leaves, white flowers in season, and it smells like a mint. Super easy to ID.

Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
yeah I was super worried about not being able to get ours because there was an article in the DMRegister about Bengals being illegal, but we know some vets who don't seem to care, so neither do we.inx515xhell wrote:cute kitty!

$400, and yeah it's ridiculous. I was planning on going to a shelter, but they didn't have any kittens. When I saw a picture of this one, I fell in love.xkristyx wrote:Cute cat. But how much did it cost?

Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
A bengal cat is a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic cat, so it's a hybrid.Wheatstache wrote:Why are they illegal?JillJillJill wrote:yeah I was super worried about not being able to get ours because there was an article in the DMRegister about Bengals being illegal, but we know some vets who don't seem to care, so neither do we.inx515xhell wrote:cute kitty!

A bill was passed in July of 2007 that outlawed "dangerous animals" including hybrid cats. Right now there is a proposed bill okaying hybrid cats. Ours is a 4th generation bengal, so it's basically a typical domestic cat. It looks a bit different, is a bit stronger, and seems to be a bit smarter (apparently you can toilet train it in under a week) but otherwise is your average cat.

Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
I wonder if my cat is part bengal. She's definitely mostly tabby, but she has those same kind of pointed ears, spots on her belly, an orange tint underneath her grey fur, and she's pretty sharp.. I never had to train her.. she used her litter box from day one, and she was only 8 weeks old when I got her from the shelter.

Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
yeah dude, i worked at an herb garden for a few summers, we just let a few of the plants go to seed each year, and there'd be plenty to sell to the suckas at the farmers market. it's more than likely a person could find a patch of this on a lovely stroll through the neighborhood beginning in early summer.moltar wrote:Buy catnip? We went to the ARL, but they didnt have any kittens.
Re: I now own a Bengal kitten,
Funny, usually they have more kittens than they know what to do with. I guess they must've gone on a euthanasia binge or something.
