Law Abiding Citizen- Movie was easily forgettable. Lots of holes in the plot and pretty weak acting.

Sugar- Excellent movie from the directors of Half Nelson. It's a story about a baseball player from the Dominican Republic who gets called up to the Minor Leagues in the US, but never makes it to the Majors so he has to find something new with virtually no knowledge of English, friends or family and an expired visa. I'd suggest picking it up even if you're not a baseball fan, as its much more than just a baseball movie. Part of it is shot in Davenport as well.

This movie came up in a discussion tonight, so I felt I needed to add it.

Moon- One of the better movies I've seen this year. Scifi thriller about a man who lives on the moon for 3 years operating a station that extracts minerals for world energy. However, near the end of his stint he starts hallucinating and discovers a secret about his existence. An interesting 'big brother is watching you' concept. See this now if you haven't already.

Here's the trailer:

I saw Moon when it was showing at the Fleur Cinema. I'll second that it was good.

Law Abiding Citizen - Enjoyed but it seemed like it was lacking something. I feel like the story could have been pulled off a little better. Sort of seems rushed.

In the last three days:

Good Will Hunting
The Royal Tenenbaums
Inglourious Basterds - glad to finally see it. American propaganda at its best
Transformers 2 - you can't polish a turd, etc.
Persepolis - animated film of the graphic novel. About a girl's life through the Iranian Islamic Revolution

The room is hysterical just because it's soooo horrible, though I fell asleep so I guess I can't say it's completely worthless...

I watched Notorious last night and found myself a little disappointed, but I'm not sure why. It just didn't really live up to my expectations. For sure though, if you like rap or boobies, check this out.

If I remember right she picked up a bootleg Iron Maiden tape as a teenager in Tehran and it ends up changing her life.

So as of recent...

The Mark of Zorro (1940). It's been years since I've seen one of the old Zorro films and I enjoyed this one. I like the Zorro character - he's like an bourgeois Castillian version of Robin Hood. The colonial California setting is pretty cool too. I know most of you appreciate a good sword fight.

The Hill. Starring Sean Connery. This one was about a British military prison in North Africa during WWII and sadistic prison guards. I liked this one.

Bruno. Not as funny as Borat or Ali G but I liked it. I'll probably only watch this one once.

El Rhino wrote:Faust - the 1920's German silent film about Satan and stuff. Very sweet. I kind of like old silent films.
I watched this in a class called Pact with the Devil. We mostly discussed German literature but watched a couple of films. Some of the speical effects (the mechanical horsemen, Mephisto blanketing the city, etc.) are pretty neat. The movie strays from Goethe's Faust, but it's great regardless.

watched Sukiyaki Western Django last night. Pretty awesome movie. It's by Takashi Miike so if you're familiar with his work and like it, you will like this movie. Imagine The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly meets Seven Samurai.

this movie was NOT based on django but used some elements as in coffin full o guns. other than that. it's not really related. sorry. if anything it's more based off of Dollars Trilogy, a brilliant masterpiece of movies in the western genre.

wtf are you talkin about? lone stranger drifts into a town controlled by two rival gangs with a coffin full of weapons he offers at the highest price, who then proceeds to play the two gangs against each other. i've scene leone's nameless stranger trilogy and i've scene django, might make a nod to them here and there, but this is obviously based on django.
i watched district 9 yesterday. pretty cool ending but i was kinda left wanting more. the special effects were fuckin top notch though.
