Morels

Post by Nick » Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:41 am

Anybody else an avid mushroom hunter? If we get a little rain this week, they might be popping this weekend with the warm temps. Stoked!

I wouldn't call myself avid... but I've done some mushroom hunting in my day. Morels are great. Might try to make it out somewhere here in the IC area soon if possible.

I guess I'm not avid really either, but I do go out a few times a week during the late April/early May. Then it is onto crappie fishing. I can't wait to eat some pan-fried morels though.

I was thinking the same thing. Especially if the temp keeps up. I found a ton last year.

Sam, I'm hoping you find a bunch of morels, do all the work in frying them up and making them delicious, and then let me eat them. Just like last year.

I found twenty little greys here in Hardin County this morning. Yellows should be up this week if we have a sunny day. Ground temp needs to be over 50 degrees, so they should be showing up everywhere in Iowa.

I think the season is just about over around here. I went out mushroom hunting for a while this morning. Went almost an hour without finding any, but then right when I was about to leave, I started finding quite a few. But...for every 1 good one I'd find, I'd find 3 that were dried up, so I didn't end up getting that many. Enough for one last good meal though.

I was listening to The Mamas and The Papas this morning, not wasting my time searching for something that I would only find 4 or 5 of and that would ultimately disappoint me.

Let's not see any pictures from you ever again because no one gives a shit about you, "asshammer".

Went out for a bit yesterday. Small greys are popping. Most I found were the like thumb sized:

I did manage to find the smallest morel in the world though. It was maybe the size of my fingernail on my pinky:

Yup. Beer butt chicken fucking rules.

They should be popping today after the rain yesterday. Certainly this weekend with the rain. The ground temperature is optimal right now, we just need moisture.
