Did this place used to be called Mister Donut a LONG time ago? Either way, this is the place on Grand just past 63rd right?

yeah.
it's always been donut king.
take a look at the sign outside, like the owner, it looks like it's been through Vietnam.
You can get a bakers dozen for 7.25. That's with tax. The raised donuts are so freakin good.

I could have sworn it was called Mr. Donut when I was 2 or 3. Probably just 2 or 3 year old illiteracy. Anyway, I've been going to that place my whole life. It's awesome. I kind of hope it's still there when I'm an old man so it can be my morning hang out.
Seriously

I'll be chillin' with the "Dead Pecker Club" at the SE 14th Hy-Vee deli.

Does this place have pumpkin donuts? I'm a sucker for these things and it seems like you can only find them in the fall.

Maybe you're right...but the sign just says Donut, and it's a crown and easily from the 70's, maybe it said Mr. above it.

and i hope I'm there with you. as an old man.

Donut King has a sweet sign, but Donut Land has a killer radio ad:

"Do you know the Donut man,
the Donut man, at Donut Land.
Do you know the Donut man,
At Douglas Avenue-ooooooo?"

If you're a Cubs fan, you have to hear it 48 times during the radio broadcast of Cub's games.

This place is roughly two seconds from my house. When I had to get my car towed, the guy who towed it told me that his son owns the Donut King. He told me to go in there and tell him his dad sent me. So I need to do that soon. I love donuts.
