Human Physiological Question
The Itch.
What is the point of feeling an itch?
Discuss.
To me, the immediate reaction of scratching helps in some short term relief of a mild irritant, but in the case of, say poison oak (which I recently contracted from the back corner of my yard) you do nothing but damage the skin and open the way for infection.

Re: Human Physiological Question
Good question.
The other day I was at the gym doing 20-rep squats. For those of you who are pencil-dicks, knocking out 20 reps with reasonably heavy weight is hard to do and will make you feel like you're going to pass out by around rep 13 or so. I got a really bad itch on my nose on rep three. It really sucked. Next time that happens, I should yell "SCRATCH MY FUCKING NOSE!!!" to see if anyone actually does it.

Re: Human Physiological Question
People yawn to push oxygen out of their lungs that hasn't been expelled from regular breathing. You take a really deep breath, blow a small amount of it out, inhale again really deeply, do this for awhile and it'll build up a yawn.joseph wrote:a way to draw attention to your physical self from your mental self?
