Meet the Band: Easy Fruit
Published on December 9th, 2014 | by Joe Lawler
Members: Brad Turk (vocals, guitar), Thomas Oldham (vocals, guitar), Joe Horn (bass), Chris Marshall (drums)
See them: 5:30 p.m. Saturday at a dual record release party with Volcano Boys at Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St.
Des Moines music fans have seen Brad Turk and Thomas Oldham perform together in different incarnations before. They were in Big American Party and Family Unit. Oldham played with Turk’s Bradley Unit and the Members. They kicked off their latest project together, Easy Fruit, earlier this year.
“Thomas came to me and told me his New Year’s resolution was to start a band,” Turk said. “Joe and Chris were already on board when I joined.”
Turk and Oldham trade off on singing lead vocals, with each singing the songs they wrote. Each has been writing new material since Easy Fruit started.
Saturday Easy Fruit will release its debut tape, a six-song release that includes a download card. Turk said the band wanted to put out its first release as cheaply as possible, which tapes allow for, and it has long been a popular format for noise and punk fans. The EP was recorded at Phil Young’s Wabi Sound, as was Volcano Boys’ album being released at the same show.
