A very incomplete IowaHardcore flier archive (97-02 era)

I've scanned all the fliers I have that fit on a scanner. They are primarily Botanical Center shows booked by me, sxotty, brizzi with a few Nate Fetus shows and even fewer from surrounding midwest venues.
I will photograph larger poster size show fliers and get them up later
. I'm still looking for that To Dream of Autumn flier. If you would like to contribute fliers scan them at 72 pixels/inch at their full size (8.5x11 or whatever they are) and email/mediafire.com them to

I wasn't living in Iowa during most of these years, but this is still cool. Any idea when this show was? I had no clue Rivethead had ever played Des Moines?

I think it was 2000-01 sometime, but not sure...all my fliers are 97-02, but the year is never on them.
sxotty (scott schweinebart) did that show and the flier

i was at that show, it was 2001. as the sun sets played 1.5 songs and then the guitarist sliced his head open on his guitar and had to go to the hospital

A surprising number of the bands listed on these fliers never actually played - but we booked 'em and that's what counts

That show was so awesome because it was two pop-punk bands, and then two weird crazy hardcore bands, and it didn't seem weird at all. That's the story of Botan shows in a nutshell: Nothing was off-limits and we were all the better for it.
Morty, I have a shitload of those old flyers, so I'll try to figure out this scanner stuff sometime and help out!

I scanned a ton of old fliers I had from the 99-03ish era too, probably have a lot of the same ones, but maybe not. Some Fallout Shelter fliers, botan, and Hairy Marys.

sadly, what few flyers i had from my shows from that era were ruined by floods and can't be scanned. i know servo and scotty have a bunch though. this brings back a ton of great memories though.

i'd really love those flyers, kurtis. is your copy of the black eyes the color image? when mine got dicked up in the flood i got so sad. tama was looking for a copy the other month. i'd also be eager to see anything else from those ic house shows i did: exam (though i think exam cancelled?), helen of troy, etc. also m.i.a.: the majority rule show at the botan.
i might still have the one for signal to trust, the one am radio and the wind-up bird. that show ruled.
what kind of sucks is i was doing a pretty good job archiving stuff until i got nailed with flood damage twice. what little i have is of pretty fucked up, marginal quality.

Even terrible fliers need love. I think Johnny Bee of M&G might get me a ton from his collection and possible Luke Tweedy's posters.
Fliers I want:
To Dream of Autumn @ Botan
Tragedy @ Theta Beta Potata
Any of the Botanical Center shows
Even that Isis/Knut/Buried Inside show
Re: Why no more Botan shows-
anyone have the full story on who in the Isis/Knut tour party exposed themselves and masturbated at 10yr children and their mothers leaving a baby shower? 9 years later i'm still curious who put me in the position to make that humiliating apology phone call.

Yeah, the Isis/Knut thing all went down before most people were there. The people in the room we used before us were doing a baby shower. Isis/Knut kept trying to load in and were asked to leave, got pissy and some one/some people in that tour party decided to get hostile in the parking lot...that's as much as I've ever learned, though I know there are a bunch of people who saw it happen.

It was probably a guy from Knut, with their weird liberated European sexualities.
As for why shows at the Botan stopped, I think over the years they just gradually got annoyed and disinterested in helping us out. Greg and those guys were more and more getting the runaround from them, and then they just stopped allowing shows altogether. Fuckin jerks.

my last two shows I did there, they would only let us rent the cafeteria room (the most expensive). I know they did that to Greg too. Once they got the new ownership, they just didn't want anything to do with us anymore. It was for the best in my opinion. It was very hard to get enough people go come to a show to cover the rent for the room let alone pay bands well.

are you referring to the flyer for your majority rule show? because i was talking about the one for mine. when they were touring for emergency numbers. it was a bit overelaborate but i though it was pretty cool, personally.

up to 109 fliers from 49 on the first update, bigger images, bigger thumbnails. I photographed all my large format fliers, and added a bunch of contributions from Luke Tweedy (his posters for VB/10G mostly) and Jonny B of M&G.
get in touch at
mortycore@yahoo.com if you want to contribute.
RE: losing the Botan
Yeah the kids didn't respect it....(bathroom poop smearing anyone?) but unlike a wedding or prom where they had 1 night to fuck up and never planned to rent again - we rented all the time for years with ample opportunities to fuck up bad enough that they would stop renting to us... inevitable in some ways with the crowd/ages

Well I missed out.
