Rockabilly Reign
510 Elm St.
West Des Moines, IA 50265
They just opened within the last couple days. Still adding stuff.
they advertise "selling 50's inspired Rockabilly & Pin-Up clothing and accessories for men and woman"
At the moment I noticed more girls clothing then mens. a live lizzard in the store caught my attention under the hats section. also they mentioned Greg'Hel will have some original shirt designs in soon. Should be very cool when they are done adding stuff.

Rockabilly chicks are pretty cute, but the last thing the world needs is more dudes walking around in flame/playing card/hotrod bowling shirts with greased back hair.
Or this shit:

Negative. Rockabilly gals are notoriously beastly worldwide. They don't call it "orcabilly" for nothing. While there certainly are some attractive models out there that don rockabilly attire for some vintage pin-up photo shoot, they in no way reflect the overwhelming majority of female members of the rockabilly culture.
So now there's a rockabilly store and a goth store opened up a few weeks ago. Someone get on Oi! the Store or some shit.

You know..you're right. Lemme rephrase. Rockabilly chicks
can be pretty cute. I don't really mind the pin-up look (cropped bangs, jet black hair, red lipstick) when pulled off well.

I went to the Longest Yard for lunch the other week. Not busy at all. Decent food. Seems like the only good time to go.

MATT MUTT wrote:Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Rockabilly outfit. On the other hand I am in favor of people who want to see local subcalture scene grow. There is now 2 new local Rockabilly bands comming up, and now a store. Looks like they're not setting around talking about what needs to happen, they are making things happen. I wish I could say the same for the Punk/Oi scene. It only takes 1 person not 100 to make a little change.
oh i wasnt talking shit. hot topic has their place in the world too. along with juggalos and beavers that fall down.

Unfortunately I can't bring myself to the same positive attitude as Matt towards a budding cockasilly scene in Des Moines. I really, really hate that shit.

What are the big Frankenstein shoes that rockabilly guys wear called?
I think I hated those more than bowling shirts with flames on them.

See the real question is, are these home grown American Rockabillie or the American version of Teddy Boy? Teddy was the stupidest youth movement to come out of England. Cheese ball clothes to be worn by mindless drones listening to really cheesy music. The thing with Rockabillie is that it either can be really great or it can be these Happy Days re-enactment. Too often it's Potsie, the Fonz and a bunch of Bettie Page wannabes.
Brothel Creepers date back to WWII UK soldiers stationed in North Africa. The boots they wore were suede with a crepe sole. When they returned to England they wore them out on the town and became known as Brothel Creepers. The Rockabillie connection comes with the Teddys that began wearing them in the late 50s. Then were picked up by the UK punk scene and spread from there. In fact they have been a stable in the Punk and Ska scene since the 1970s.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but don't you listen to stoner metal and wear trucker hats?
