Sushi in Des Moines?

Post by Nick » Thu Apr 01, 2010 11:27 am

Where is the best Sushi place in Des Moines? Taki is decent, but seems more expensive and is always busy.

Anybody tried that new place next to Big Tomato?

Yeah, was wondering about that joint. Have you been? Is it any good? Always looks packed when I drive by, but I just chalked that up to it being in the East Village.

I specifically am looking for a new place with awesome tuna/salmon Maki. My favorite is probably a Philadelphia roll.

better than anywhere ive ever been. sashimi is my favorite. im not much of a roll person but theirs are excellent.
if you get there weekdays before 545pm for dinner, no waiting problems. even on fridays. closed sundays which sucks cause its my favorite day to eat out. they have take out but i always forget to grab a menu.

Hmm...will definitely have to check it out! How's the Nigiri? I love me some tuna Nigiri with a bit of nori and some wasabi.

Unless they've recently raised their prices dramatically Taki is pretty cheap for what you get. They easily have the freshest fish (at least sushi-wise). Then again they have changed owners since my last visit so that may have changed.

Sushi is the sort of thing you don't want to try and get on the cheap.

Try not to get that East Village Aids juice on your sushi roll. Its spicy and green, kind of like wasabi paste.Lots of rump rangers eat in there. Wear some medical gloves if you go.

You could also go across the street and check out the awesome live local bands at House of bricks.
(if you enjoy horrible noise yo )

My new hip hop band should be playing soon. We heard about Underground? or a place called vaudville ? Is those tight ?
