So it starts off on a shitty note when Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili dies in the final practice round. They showed the video a few times on the news, pretty fucked up. The dude hit the post going 90 mph.


Anyways, looking forward to hockey and the skiing events are pretty cool. Figure skating is gay but speed skating is kind of interesting.

curling is the only event i care for in winter olympics.

Hockey is all I care about. Personally not holding out much hope for the US team this year, the guy running the team for us is a dick and is picking players based on who will kiss his ass instead of talent.

Outside of Kane there's isn't a real bright spot when it comes to scoring. When it comes to forwards the US is just better at producing power forwards,playmakers, and grinders than they are goal scorers.

Our defensive core is strong. Goaltending isn't bad. Ryan Miller is having a decent season and while Tim Thomas isn't doing as well as he did last year most players seem to find their ways out of the rut when it comes time for the Olympic games.

Unless Tim Thomas pulls off the gold i say Canada or Sweden will reign supreme

I'm willing to bet that most of that garbage was written by white kids currently occupying "native lands". I guess living on the injun's land and using their resources is ok if you feel really, really bad about it.

Yeah, they seem pretty stoked about Bilodeau getting the gold in Men's Moguls, especially after Hamelin's disappointing performance in short track. The Canadian (or "Canadien" to appease Francophone sensibilities) fans didn't quite take to the streets like Oakland Raiders fans or anything, but a passionate display nonetheless.

He's right, you know. The huge surge in the local economy from spectators coupled with the massive infrastructure improvements and enhanced civic/regional/national prestige that comes with hosting an Olympic event comes at a cost of booting the panhandlers and vagrants out of selected areas. Totally not worth it! And the indigenous peoples? Oh man... They get a plethora of people to peddle their beads and trinkets to as well as other employment in economically disenfranchised areas but the Olympic people set up shop for a whole couple of weeks! I really feel for Vancouver and Rio de Janiero in 2012 for drawing the shortest straw...especially the slum dwellers of Rio and the indigenous people in the Amazon regions who will undoubtedly get hit the hardest.
