This depends on two criteria: his criminal background and the amount of weed in possession at the time of his arrest.

If he had a clean record and small amount of weed, he probably would've been fined and jailed for the night (like the newscaster suggests). If he had previous charges and a large of amount, he'd probably go to prison.

I'd like to say he overreacted, but who knows.

It's also harmful to swallow bags of weed and resist arrest. I know you would like to blame this on the drug laws but I think I'm going to place the primary blame on the fact that this guy was an idiot and an asshole.

I'd say it's mostly the victim's fault, but do you think this would have played out the same way if it were ten years ago and police weren't as tazer-happy as they are now? Drug laws are stupid, and the guy was stupid for resisting arrest, but the fact that the officers resorted to a tazer when their lives were clearly not at risk is the real reason he died. A tazer may not be a fatal weapon, but it's often life-threatening and it seems like it is being used more and more out of convenience rather than necessity.

One time way back in the day I was chillin with Brendan Richter and Matt Runner. I had a quarter ounce of pretty good smoke in my pocket, and we got pulled over. I get searched, every time I get pulled over, EVERY time, and the car was pretty hot boxed. I ate the whole 1/4 (not the bag though). Think I got searched that time? Nope. So now I'm so high I'm throwing up, and out of weed. Talk about STONED though.

Continuing to monkey around and wrestle this guy under most circumstances would be more dangerous and have more risk to the criminal than tazing him to subdue him and then cuffing him. I'm not sure what you know about escalation of force and when you think usage is appropriate, but everything looks appropriately handled to me and I don't see how anyone could reasonably point the finger at the cops for this one.

Agreed. They spend about 65% of their time screwing around wasting tax payers money, 30% if it harrassing people who haven't done anything wrong, and 5% at best serving and protecting. They're scum. Anyone who's proud that they screw up other peoples, or that makes a living sticking their nose where it doesn't belong is a piece of shit in my book.

While I agree that common sense says resisting arrest means getting your ass kicked by the cops, they have NO right to use any sort of weapon on anyone unless they feel that their safety or well being is in danger, which in this case, it obviously wasn't.
