The famous sign over the entrance at Auschwitz was stolen. I'd love to see how they managed that, you would think they would have a ton of security on the camp itself. They might want to start staffing the guard towers to prevent/deter future thefts/vandalism.

I got that shit in the back of my dad's truck. I don't see what the big deal is.

Haha, no, I don't get to ride around on a trike. I pretty much have to stay put. Both J-Wal and I work nights but on the opposite night shifts. I'm in the far SW part in department 179 at machine W-2 if you're in on nights. If you stop by there and there's a little Asian guy, that's not me.

I find it interesting that they didn't come out and say "neo-nazis" did it, which is where they were quick to point the finger. When I first heard about this I figured there was a 65% chance it was Polish or German WP dudes, 25% chance it was a hoaxed hate crime (this actually happens about as often as real hate crimes) or some weird "art" project with Jews as the culprits and a 10% chance it was Gypsies. There's been a lot of incidents around the world recently of Hanukkah displays on public ground getting vandalized, so who knows.

I went on a school trip to Germany when I was 16. As part of our "educational" experience we took a trip to a concentration camp south of Berlin (I think). There was absolutly no security to speak of, as I recall. You could walk in and out as you pleased doing just about whatever you pleased during visitation hours. I don't think they probably ever even thought for a second that someone would steal anything from one of these places. It's not like the guests were dicking around playing leap frog through the foundation of the furnaces. It's not Worlds of Fun, its a fucking concentration camp.

I would put my money on someone wanting a souvenir of their trip. That's a famous sign, regardless of what it actually stands for. People with far more money than morals will probably be trading it around for decades.

"Ordinary thieves" are responsible with no ties to the far right or neo-nazi orgs. Sounds like apologies are in order from the Jews to the far right community.
