Bike riders

Post by tylerjames515 » Tue Oct 20, 2009 10:35 pm

Anyone here ever shorten the chain on their bike? I need it done but don't have the funds or a way (besides walking) to a bike shop. Who's got a chain breaker or knows how to do it?

Just use a hammer and a thin nail.

what he said. I've never used a legit chain tool on mine... a nail will work.

if you have horizontal dropouts you may be able to loosen the wheel and pull it back a bit to add tension.

You do understand people don't always ride bikes out of necessity right?

I'll have to dig through the tool box but I used to have one. Since I'm building up this old Haro for the kid, I will need to find it or buy another. They are about $6.00 - http://flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageA ... ProdID=649

The Hammer and punch will work but be careful not to bend the links or you will end up having to buy a new chain.

I wonder if the Bike Collective would let you just use their tools?
I paid my dues but I lost my Receipt.

I like being in shape and riding my bike out of enjoyment. I don't need a car anyway so thanks for that.

I have them, but it needs to be alot shorter. The gears don't shift and I never really used them anyway so I took all that off.

I might take the time to finish painting it now since it'd be easier without all the extra chrome.
