Hah. Yeah...you could say I am more than stoked for this show.
I hope people don't get turned off by the "pop-punk" label, as they aren't your traditional Ramonescore/Weaselcore generic pop-punk. These bands have that Minneapolis/Midwest grit and blue-collar ethic about them. Think songs about drinking and rough times, rather than about girls and bubblegum.
I'd say Banner Pilot is more similar to Dillinger Four and Off With Their Heads than The Queers. In fact, Nate Ganglehoff of Banner Pilot, is also the bassist for Off With Their Heads. Banner Pilot also has ex-members of Rivethead and Dear Landlord...and anyone who is into this sort of punk will defintely know those are well known/respected bands. Nate also plays bass in The Gateway District, which features an awesome female combo on vocals, but mainly fronted by Maren (fromerly of The Soviettes). She has a very awesome and unique voice that works perfect with this brand of punk.
I don't really know a whole lot about The Manix, as I think they are a pretty up and coming band. I believe this will be their first tour, but Nick and Nate from Banner Pilot told me they are great live and the songs on their MySpace sound pretty good. I'm stoked to see them.
Tell everyone you know about this show. If this show is a success, hopes are that these bands go back to the Twin Cities and tell all their friends what a rad place the Haunted Basement is to play. Minneapolis has always been a breeding ground for amazing bands and currently lays claim to probably 5 or 6 of my favorite bands, so establishing more of connection with that scene is a great thing in my eyes.
And since I've been hyping the potential for this show for a while now, I promise to make it out and meet some of you guys before this show. Prove how much of a dweeb I am and whatnot. But in the meantime...get stoked on this show!!!

do you get off on writing things that are WAY too long for people to read?
you better be at this show, or else youve just cemented your identity as a cop.

Haha...yeah...I have a tendecny to get wordy about shit, especially when I'm as stoked as I am for this. Sorry 'bout that.
And you can bank that I will be at this show. Nate and Nick from Banner Pilot would kick my ass if I wasn't. I wanna meet all you regular fools from the HB before this too.

Oh....I'm gonna post all of Banner Pilots releases in this thread later. Tonight I'll rip my Gateway District 7" and post it here as well. I'll try and track down more stuff from The Manix too.
Both Banner Pilot and Gateway District will have brand new full length albums out just before this show. I hope to acquire those and post them here at some point.

You heard any of the new songs? They added a second guitarist, who is female, so they have a second female vocalist that works well with Maren's smokey/gritty voice. Shit sounds good.

Yeah. I was pretty floored when this was announced yesterday on the Fat Wreck website.
Talk about timing in booking this show, huh servo? I hope they don't expect some sort of guarantee now. But honestly, those dudes are so down to earth, money is probably the last thing on their mind behind putting on a good/fun show.
Also...congrats to Nate, Nick and the rest of the Banner dudes. They totally deserve this.

I assume the new record is gonna have a nice budget for production and it will sound stellar. I am guessing that Fat is going to want them to tour like crazy though (as they ...something they have never really done before. That should rule.

So The Manix e.p. that I ordered arrived yesterday and I ripped it. Here it is for you to check out. I guess they also have a split 7" with Amen and the Hell Yeahs out as well. I'm trying to find a copy of that.
The Manix - "Stay Low and Go"
8 song debut e.p. Released in 2009 on Heart of the Lakes Records. Features Corey of Banner Pilot on guitar/vocals, so you can hear a similarity to that band. Also sorta sounds like Off With Their Heads or Rivethead I guess? Pretty good. I hear they play well together and are really tight live. They will probably be the "poppier" of the 3 Mlps. bands playing this show.

That's what happens when you get moved from patrol duty to a desk job. Lots of time to fuck around on the internet.

Actually, no, I wouldn't expect you to listen to it if you don't have any interest in going to the show to begin with.
What I do expect (from the short time I've spent on this messageboard) is for you to slag on shows or bands you don't like. So your comment isn't as shocking as you may want it to be. But I guess you got a response out of me, so it worked, right?
