unless you're ready to throw down a whole thesis on how thrash does not equal punk rock i think you're asking for a world of hurt on this board.

as someone who was a frequent supporter of the fallout shelter and at least a strong advocate if not a frequent patron of the haunted basement i think you should either shut the fuck up or back up your argument.

i think the haunted basement is punk as fuck. perhaps, at points, too punk for me, but what the fuck are you trying to say here? this place is crucial to keeping DIY, trash, and punk ideals and aesthetics alive in central iowa.

this guy has no idea what he is talking about. the hb is 10 times more punk than the fallout shelter. not even joking. and there are a lot of good bands.

I have fairly recently just moved back to town and stumbled upon the "new" DIY scene (HB) in Des Moines and from what I can tell...they seem very open and stoked on the idea of having "punk" bands play. I, for one, know I am looking forward to some of the upcoming shows. Punk seems to be much more alive and well in Des Moines than it was, say, 7-8 years+ ago.

J-BRIZZZ FOR THE WIN.

Let's just get this out of the way: Weirdtaylor, who are you? I mean, I'm probably sure I've met you outside of the internet, so... what is the name of your Earthly vessel?

There are plenty of people that were playing in punk rock bands when the Fallout Shelter was around that still play in punk bands and are generally involved in punk rock today. REST IN PEACE CREEPY KIDS THOUGH, THAT'S FOR SURE.

And if you aren't happy with the state of punk rock in Des Moines, well "MAKE YOUR OWN NOISE" man.

i agree with you on everything, except i was a little confused by this statement...there are definately no 'dead kennedys' today, or anything like that, its a different generation...
anyways...what are "punk ideals" in this day and age of 2009 in des moines,ia? just wondering?
