"Salvation" vs. "Salvation"

"Salvation" by Rancid vs. "Salvation" by The Cranberries.
I generally enjoy The Cranberries' catalog and as far as what I'm familiar with, "Salvation" ranks towards the top. Interesting video and song subject. A few punk points might be lost for choosing The Cranberries.
"Salvation" by Rancid is chalk full of punk rock cliches. Not a bad song, but a little on the goofy side, although it's no "Roots Radicals" by any means. As stated in the 2nd or 3rd most viewed thread on this forum "Let's Discuss Some Bands", Rancid is a band I generally pull for and like even though they're sometimes very hard to take seriously. I'm not sure if they're just really into displaying items from their influences/friends or doing some hardcore name dropping, but all the punk rock imagery (i.e. fliers in the background) and shout-outs seem to be a very strong theme in their career.
From a historical context, "Salvation" by Rancid probably made more of an impact on popular music as one of the first singles to usher in the punk thing in the middle 90's. "Salvation" by The Cranberries was just another song, like it or not.
Anyways, Dolores O'Riordan has a very pleasant voice. Tim Armstrong usually sounds like his throat is coated in jizz, except for on the "Indestructible" album where he sounds like Kim Jong Il from Team America: World Police....with a throat full of jizz.
So I'm going to pick "Salvation" by The Cranberries. Maybe if "Ruby Soho" or another one of their stronger songs was named "Salvation" things would be different, but The Cranberries win this one.
Vote and discuss.

this is a pretty silly and particularized poll. I suppose i'll vote for Rancid's version, though. i like the song, and i like rancid better than the cranberries.

no need to argue as an album is so much better than any given rancid album.... probably makes my top 10 of the 90s...
but salvation was on to the faithful departed
that albums not as good
but the song salvation is
still way better than rancids salvation

I'm going to have to vote rancid. I really don't like the chorus to that cranberries song. It really ruins the rest of the song for me.
the other night I watched a video in which tim armstrong was referred to as the "punk rock warlord"

I voted for Rancid, though off that album I much prefer Tenderloin and Nihilism to Salvation. Also, the video for Salvation has Vespa's and Lambretta's in it starting at 2:08, that is a plus.

Roxette had a record in 1999?
That Skinhead song on "Lets Go!" is ridiculous.
I picked Cranberries.

my drunken and lazy take on this thread:
I remember talking about rancid's salvation with nate phillips in 7th grade english class and agreeing that it was cool
I played "Iowa Born" for the probably 5th time for some of my friends tonight and they laughed just as hard as the first time
I also probably woke my neighbors up because shit was cranked to 11 like the lotos eaters say in that one commercial they did
salvation was the moment the cranberries jumped a big-ass shark
while rancid's salvation was their last single that wasn't a parody of itself
(I still like rancid when they were parodying themselves/all of punk rock)
PS I met Shaquille O'Neal today and the dude is tall, in case you didn't know

My favorite Shaq moment was when he went to Greece years ago and when he came back a journalist asked him if he went to the Parthenon. His response "I don't know, I can't remember the names of all the clubs we went to".

This thread is weird.
1. Kobe announced today he is charging 50 bucks for access to his official website.
2. I youtubed "Iowa Money" and got some live performance by those dorks, one guy was rapping talking about "being smooth like the Lakers" while wearing a Celtics shirt.
Made me want to facepalm.
