I used to just google venue names, find websites and look at show listings.

If you aren't looking for big venue shows go to MPShows.com. They do a ton of cool shows through 5 or 6 venues.

Doesn't look like a lot is booked on that site for the 4th, 5th, or 6th though.

I always use the chicago reader, it's the most complete listing of shows that I've found.

Music links are on the left, early warnings is all shows but it goes quite a ways out as well.
