I actually thought about that place last week. Des Moines is certainly lacking in the cafeteria-style dining catered towards senior citizens department. That place must've closed in what, '95 or '96?

I was talking with someone the other day about how Southridge used to have a water slide, probably around '85 or so over by where Shoe Carnival is at now or Waldenbooks, I forgot which one. I don't recall if the tower extension thing is still up, but I know it was there for a while after they shut the water slide down.

Little Ceasar's. The Souff Side A&W. Archives. Thought about that place the other day as well, it closed down about as I became "musically aware". I remember buying Suicidal Tendancies, Bad Brains and some other cool shit on cassette there. The Argentine Restaurant, even though it was the worst ran place ever. A chivito sandwich would be good right now.

Every once in a while I have a random memory of this, and until now I couldn't remember the name of the store with the slide in it. Thats awesome.

Fuck the little lights that you lite when you wanted them to come to the table. Yeah Bishops was some of the worst food ever but it was a big part of growing up in Des Moines.

Yeah Al got kind of fucked by his business partner and had to close Archives and then opened Oddities which was never as cool as BPE(this could be cause you will never see hippie chicks breast feeding at the front counter and a larger sellection).

Yeah I remember when the water slide opened at Southridge. If I remember it was like $3 per rides or something crazy like that. It didn't last long.

OH fuck I forgot about Knott's Cafe, the Why Not Grill and the Pickle Barrel. God their Rubben's were by far the best in town. Big Daddy's BBQ with Big Daddy walking around with a spoon full of sause that would send you to ER.

I drive by Whitewater about twice a month. I'm bummed I never got around to taking my son there other then for mini golf. I lived real close to it growing up and it was a big part of my early teens.

It's strange to have it sitting there empty. I guess they were trying to get Pleasant Hill to buy it and they refused. Seems like a real waste, they need to get their head out of their asses.

Building a new downtown library was a real stupid idea. I remember reading that when they budgeted the new one, they left out the cost of the underground parking and it ended up costing more to build the new one then it would have to been to re-model the old one.

Bishops was sick, but convienant.
