I was going down hickman and went straight into a flooded portion of it. My car died & water started seeping in so I jumped out the window. Called my dad, he drove "around it" and his car (uninsured) ended up flooded. We walked all the way to methodist to see my mom. We're now sitting in scrubs eating saltine crackers. fuck this, floods suck.

This shit is getting serious. A freind who works for the city said DSM river is expected to rise form 27 ft to 30 ft. It was 34 during the flodd of 93'. If it floods again, I am going to be the dude who boogey boards down court.

It was really fucking scary, especially when I had to swim through water up to my chest to get to hickman pub. my car is completely totaled; it was totally underwater, but my dads might be able to start, which is really really good news.

my car died this week too. but it had nothing to do with the flood. it had more to do with a wheel falling off.

I saw that happen to a guy who works where I work last week as he was pulling into the parking lot. The dude also has a hilarious blond combover, I can't even describe how funny it looks.

But it hasn't been 100 years yet.
The biggest difference is that it isn't going to be right in the middle of the Ryan grand prick. So they will open the flood gates sooner. So unless, water works gets flooded it will only effect the Valley Junkshop and the southside bottoms.

Yeah gobal warming is suppost to be causing the 100 year floods to start happening every 10 to 15 years.
With the bottom it really all depends on how high the Raccoon is. It would suck to go through the whole no water thing again.

Was it? They kept changing it the worst it got. First they said it was on the same level of the flood of 51, then it was 1844. After that it was the 100 year flood and I lost interest. The bottom line is that othe Des Moines floods about every 5 or 6 years. They have fucked with it so much, they can't control or prodict when it will flood. Add to that the changes to the environment and weather and you are going to see major flooding more often.

There's some flooding going on here in Iowa City, too. But it doesn't sound as bad. I'm pretty sure Dubuque ST. is the only major thing affected right now. I heard today the city was going to close the Dubuque ST. interstate exit. Makes sense. Some of the parks around the northern part of the city are flooded as well.
At my job I had to help with custodial inventory at the Mayflower dorm on Wednesday. The university was warned about flooding so I rounded up everything that dealt with the custodian department, organize it, load it on to trucks and then unload into most of the other dorms. It got me out of cleaning, but it involved "mandatory" overtime.
Now there's a huge (I heard six foot tall but I haven't been seen it since it was done) wall of sandbags in front of the underground parking garage entrance.

On Grand right inbetween the 63rd st exit and I think it's 4th, by the wendys where that sewer lays deep into the curb, making a sort of hole, some old guy managed to get his car wedged on it and it was really wierd. He just walked over to DQ too.

Fortunately I haven't even heard my sump pump kick in yet (and it should work, I put the cocksucker in last year). It was bad enough when the entire contents of my washing machine spilled out onto my carpet due to tree roots blocking the drain last spring, I could only imagine what kind of a mess a flooded basement would be.

Greetings. Here is the latest flood stages.
@ S.E. 6th, the DSM river was last reported 26.8ft @ 10:00pm. Is supposed to crest @ 28.4ft on Jun. 11th
@ Fleur, the Raccoon was @ 14.55ft @ 9:30pm, crest @ 18.2ft on Jun 11th
@ 2nd Ave, the DSM river was 20.35ft @ 10:00pm, crest @ 22.2ft on Jun 11th.
Now barring that the forcasters are not correct(rain all next week, ugh.) and what they do with the levels at saylorville and red rock, we should be in good shape.
Tornado warning till 3am.

In 93, I was working at a collection agency in downtown. The state ordered that no businesses were to open and those that worked downtown would recieve payment for loss hours from the state. The collection agency opened anyway and when I didn't show up they tried to say the I gave notice a week before the flood. It took 2 years for the state to send me the money. I heard they had to pay a huge fine because of it.
So I'm guessing in this day and age they will put you on "leave" and send you home unless you are union or the state orders you. I remember the agency I worked for tried to get us to take sick days or vacation cause they didn't want the state to find out they stayed open.

i started taking in a little water in the basement yesterday, luckily it flows straight to the drain.
In-laws have a non-stop flow though. Windsor Heights.
