got anyone from your town that Made It Big?
i know a couple from my hometown, Norwalk.
Jason Momoa--I used to skate with this kid and all my bro's friends growing up. Then he was on baywatch.
Brandon Routh--Superman. Made his television debut on MTV's "Undressed". In High School he liked soccer so much that he got a personalized license plate that read "Socker"(the proper spelling had been taken, but he liked the game so much, it didn't matter). He also had a huge ass and had the "duck feet". I teach drums to kids with his dad(much cooler than him).[edit] also, his best friend in High School, Joe Becker, broke his finger in swing choir by snapping them to rhythm.

Bryson lives in England. He moved there as a young adult and as far as I know has lived there for decades.
"Lost Continent" is a good book. It describes Des Moines pretty well. It's basically like "On The Road" as if it were written by Clark Griswold. Highly recommended.
Hometown celebrities? Hmm... Slipknot, I guess.

Bryson is good. the des moines explanation on what your life is gonna end up as... is hilarious as im sure rhino knows. ive read most of his books(travel journals) and a few of his editing ones, my grandma was a huge fan of anything from iowa that moved. he used to give book speeches? at the history building every couple of years.
lara flynn boyle and terry ferrell are from iowa. and i dont know how anybody passed but johnny carson was born in iowa. that counts. birthplace.

Oh, just remembered, Johnston has Roger the Loin Cloth guy. Famous to anyone who's been near RAGRBRAI or encountered him on his ten speed in Johnston on a hot summer day. Often times can be spotted sporting just a jock strap while on a ride.

Guess I'll do the Ames crowd. But here's the thing: Ames' notable people are pretty much all just ISU smarties. And naming them would just be lame.
John Darnielle from the Mountain Goats lived here
Fred Hoiberg (decent NBA player from a little while ago)
The closest thing we have to current celebrities are:
Leslie Hall (famous on the interwebs)
and The Envy Corps
I'm friends with the lead singer Luke Pettipoole's little brother. So I've "met" him, but let me just say, he used to sleep a lot.
