515 Crew

Totally, by pure chance, met this dude last night.

I'm bartending at the Mews and a guy walks up, orders some drinks and asks what shows are coming up. I'm drawing a blank cuz that's how I do and he says he wants to know what shows to put up on his forum.....515forums.com.

I quite honestly thought at first that the dude had somehow found out who I was and had come down to the Mews to fuck with me while I was working. I had to hold back a laugh when he said he was the guy who ran that site, it was just too much coincidence.

He came back, I introduced myself and let him know that i knew who he was. He realized I came from here.....hilarity ensues.

Dude's not bad in person.

We laughed alot.

Weird fuckin night.

I've very seriously been looking into the best ways to counteract SED for awhile, and was always a little skeptical about most everything I'd heard until I spoke with your dad.

What's SED? I imagine if you and D-Lam's dad are talking about it, then it's most likely something I should know about.

Also, I'm told Derek's dad is at least partially responsible for the absolute bottle building downtown. Discuss.

I fucked it up....it's SAD: Seasonal Affective Disorder.

it's also called winter depression, has to do with lack of sunlight and how it affects your mood/general attitude/daily routines.

having worked several different night jobs since i was 14 and generally being a night-owl, i've had runs of time wherein i wouldn't see the sun for days or weeks at a time. without sunlight, people can get run down very easily, oversleep, and generally not get to 100% most all of the time.

I'd heard many treatments, simple things like taking Vitamin D supplements and pharmaceuticals. Derek's dad is a lighting engineer and has taken a special interest in light therapy for SAD. I'd heard of people using special lights in their homes and we talked about what out there was actually effective and what was crack science.

One of the coolest convos I've had in awhile.

my mom has this. shes got the lamp lights. she says it doesnt help much but "its the thought that counts". ?

that's what we were talking about, the commercial lamps that people pass off as "full spectrum light" when they're not even really "full spectrum" and even then, that's not exactly what you need to counteract SAD.

Nick and Derek's dad (it's Mike, right?) knows all about the particular kinds of light needed to treat it. Certain temps/intensity of light that mimics certain hours of the day.
