Needed: help with laptop

my wife has an HP laptop. we cant find any of the restore discs and i want to reformat it. i want to do this cause i just got dsl and my internet explorer is corrupted and the whole damn thing runs really slow.

or... maybe someone can reformat it and fix it for me for some duckets.

someone please help.

This may be a stupid question, but have you ran 'disk cleanup', 'defrag', spyware program, etc? That should help with the speed.


Can you get on IE at all?

you need to get rid of IE asap and get you some firefox.

yeah i ran all that shit. no help.

how do i get rid of IE? is it possible to uninstall it? im no good with computers. i talked to people at work and they said to call HP and have them send a recovery disk and a windows xp disc. i'll clean out whatever problems i have (i hope).

Don't uninstall/delete IE. Windows uses it even if you never run it.

I'd take a look in the task manager while your computer is running slow. It may be antivirus software or other software conflicts that are eating your resources.

If it's a spyware issue, reformatting is the safest and most effective plan.
