A hate crime is being investigated by Des Moines police officers following an assault and harassment of two black men by so-called skinheads.

No arrests immediately were reported. The incident occurred at a convenience store in the 3700 block of Hubbell Avenue on Saturday afternoon and again shortly thereafter at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of East Douglas Avenue.

Abdul Qadir Mohamed, 22, and Ayanle Abdi, 26, both of Emporia, Kan., were in Des Moines to help a friend move out of the city. While they were in a parking lot at the convenience store two white men with shaved heads approached them, called them names and told them to "... Go back to Africa," according to a police report.


As Mohamed and Abdi got back into their car one of the white men tossed a soda can at them, hitting the windshield. Then one of the men approached the passenger side of the car and punched Mohamed several times in the side of the head through the open window, according to the report. Mohamed and Abdi got out of the car. Their assailants ran away.

Mohamed and Abdi drove to the apartment building on East Douglas Avenue and soon were confronted by several white men, including the two from the convenience store. The men yelled at Mohamed and Abdi, there was a brief altercation and then the attackers ran away again.

When police arrived to investigate a witness told officers that one of the assailants yelled, "If you mess with one skinhead you (expletive) with the rest."

Police are trying to find out if surveillance cameras recorded the assaults and harassment. There were no serious injuries.

Officers said the victims returned to Kansas after filing a report.

I wonder if the apartment complex they speak of is where the African's African friend lived, or I wonder if the Africans followed these guys there? It doesn't say that the guy that was moving lived in that complex, if that's the case that these guys followed them it sounds kind of fishy like there's more than just this one side to the story.

Anyways, let's see if those kids who wanted to start a SHARP crew will "take care" of this.

Haha, I don't know, I was just thinking about that time a year or so ago when the Big Suspender Brigade said they were going to start a SHARP crew. We saw some world-class back peddling once that got out to the wrong/right people.

Some of our friends "beat up some SHARPs" in St. Pete the other night. Turns out it was really the brother-in-law and sister of one of our REALLY GOOD friends. Sucks to be them.
