Nothing Lasts Forever

Modern Life Is War will be doing one final tour from March 29th to April 26th. Our last show ever will be April 26th in Marshalltown, Iowa. There is no disaster or dramatic situation behind the break-up. All past and current members of the band are still good friends and there is no bad blood. We just feel like it's the right time and would rather end things on our own terms than let our band become a ghost of what it was in the beginning or to be ripped apart by outside forces.

Our first show was on April 20th, 2002 in Tyler's parents basement. This makes our run as a band almost exactly six years. We want to send a huge thank you out to everyone who supported this band through thick and thin because you care about us as individuals, our music, our message or what we stand for as a band. We also want to thank all the people in the DIY/underground hardcore and punk scenes all over the country and world who work really hard and sacrifice a lot for little to no recognition or money because they love the music and message. I am really proud of all that we have accomplished but know that without the support of that community we would have never had a chance to tour and put out records for so many years. I don't want to get sentimental and there is no short way of wrapping up all my feelings about this band and these last six years. Above all...I hope we have made some people feel less alone and motivated them to think for themselves, be themselves and take action. Punk rock changed our lives. I hope we contributed something to keep the whole thing going. We are leaving soon...but The future is unwritten...so start writing it. Tour dates will be posted soon. Come sweat and scream and say goodbye to Modern life Is War.

Sincerely,
Modern Life Is War

-Joe.

I talked to Jeff tonight and he would also like to do a show in Des Moines. He was hoping they could play the haunted basement as he hears its a raging good time. Any other suggestions? I'll get an exact date from him soon.

A MLIW show at the Haunted Basement needs to happen.

EDIT: And I need to be there when it happens.

Here's a great comment from one of the geniuses that comment on Punknews.org:

"The punk gods are smiling today. Look what happens when a band writes as stupid as a song as "fuck the sex pistols". I can get behind a few sentiments in that song, but the sex pistols are fucking legends. Don't diss on the pioneers."

Looks like MLIW got pwned!

I've never really looked around Punknews.org until just now. What a bunch of idiots. Those guys make you fagz look like MENSA material.

I will say that I think that the Sex Pistols are underrated in punk rock circles. They are not underrated outside of punk rock, but within punk rock they're a band that's cool to hate pretty much because they get a lot of credit from people who have little to nothing to do with punk. "Never Mind The Bollocks..." is one of the best punk albums ever, period.

The song isn't even about the Sex Pistols.

It's not about the Sex Pistols.
It's about how stupid people are when they say that the "glory days" of punk ended when bands like the Sex Pistols broke up ("Some say it's all over, stupid fucking jaded burnouts") and how you should ignore these people and keep on doing what you've been doing ("Young ones carry on. Destroy and annoy")

It has nothing to do with the Sex Pistols directly.

No, we're going to settle this now:

Bullshit. The Sex Pistols were a top-notch punk band, based on how influencial they were and the actual musical content. "Bodies" is one of the greatest punk tracks ever written, that whole album is classic. "Fashioncore" comparisons aside (which I think their schtick was pretty cool), they've stood the test of time.

Aside from a couple not-so-good songs, "Never Mind the Bollocks" is definitely solid.

But if you compare them to most of the bands of their time (Ramones, Clash), they don't quite measure up.

It sucks that they broke up but I wasn't into the last few records really. I didn't dislike them but the 7" and My Love, My Way are where it's at. I remember seeing them at the FSU garage back in like 02/03 and it was awesome. I was always terrified of being in that death-trap of a garage but it was really fun.

Oh, and I like the Sex Pistols to a point. I'd say there are about 4 songs of theirs that I really enjoy...but I puke in my mouth a little every time I hear God Save The Queen. Also, Fungus on XM plays them fucking CONSTANTLY and it is obnoxious.
