Yeah, that's not what happened. When the story first appeared on Drudge Report there were two links- one said the initial story had been pulled due to some type of an error (standard journalism) and the second story was fixed but still getting white house pressure. Obama has lied so many times before (uhh, "not negotiating behind closed doors"/CSPAN fiasco ring a bell?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1PIWWgDG1k) and you turn a blind eye to them wanting this story pulled? Ok. I guess those of you who are middle-class income earners can tell us in a year whether or not this was the case. I won't see it first hand (even though I account for all my income, *scouts honor*).

I'll get to the rest of the horseshit later. Internet was down all night.

 Seriously, I'm dying over here.

Are you really pulling out the Ann Coulter card? LOL. So now your trying to use the garbage some racist, radical-right wing, ethno-nationalistic neo-fascist is spewing to try and "prove" whatever point it is you are trying to make about "Obamacare?" Give me a fucking break, dude. And here I was giving you some benefit of a doubt saying you only regurgitate whatever Glenn Beck feeds to you. Boy was I wrong. Ann Coulter? Hahahaha....

Get a mind of your own and try and think for yourself sometime.

beyond that, having kids: you cannot punish kids for having stupid parents. that's a theme around my workplace. just because the parents are idiots, does that mean that their kids shouldn't be seen by a PCP for their cough? or to be seen and treated for sickle cell, pneumonia, sepsis, etc.?? no, of course, IT'S ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY.
denying children healthcare leads to unhealthy lives, unhealthy adults, a larger drain on the healthcare system. denying universal healthcare (or some sort of program) will leave millions of children to suffer and die. but again, RESPONSIBILITY, RIGHT? it's punishment for having stupid (or more likely, POOR) parents.
Just like Bullettooth said- I've never seen a child denied healthcare.
sorry you had to wait 4 months to get your steroid-induced acne looked at. but yes, that's how it should be. people making their own appointments to dermatologists and other specialties means that those specialties are filled with people with contact dermatitis and bed bugs, things that can be treated at home or with a PCP. yes, you should have to see your PCP first, so they can rule out you being an idiot. and really, from working at clinics and now the hospital, i know that you can make your own appointment with a specialists, but you will still wait those four months, unless it's an emergency, which acne is not.
Let's get this straight because I'm sure you've got a few people on here convinced otherwise: you work in the medical industry, but have relatively little knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medicine. Steroids don't cause acne anymore than peanuts cause anaphylactic shock. They do in some cases, but not in all. Just like not everyone goes to a dermatologist for acne reasons. Like in my case it was for hair, back when I was 20. My hair was getting thinner and I thought I was going to go bald, so she looked at my head for two seconds and wrote me a prescription for Propecia. $75 a bottle. Made no mention of Proscar or other generics containing finasteride (oooooh, that's a steroid!) which were about 1/4th the cost. On top of that, I didn't even need it. I took it for about 8 months then stopped and there was no change. Five years later, still have a full head of hair, but actually wish I was bald. This relates to my 'poor quality healthcare' point I made earlier. And relates to your point about that girl not being able to afford her medication. For every drug that has been around at least 7 years (I believe 7 years is the patent limit) there is a much cheaper, generic alternative. I don't know what she was prescribed and neither do you, but it'd be my guess that there was a generic version of at least one of them.
A lot of doctors are shitty that way and prescribe things that you don't even need. (Happened to me at Urgent Care- I didn't go to get it filled and I was fine.) I'm sure you see this first hand all the time...Drug company reps. coming in with tons of free swag and giving it to everyone. There's a serious problem with that industry and I'm not going to go into it because that's another issue...that would take up a lot of time.

side note: i worked at an urgent care clinic for three years. if they only charged you $30 for a visit and labs, they were either being nice or it was covered by a government program. because i know that a culture such as that is at least $125. we had the costs posted all over our work area.
So if it was a government program that covered it (and I'm not saying it was)
then what's the problem that needs to be fixed here? Why does the whole system need to be changed? $30 to get an abscess drained? Sounds like a deal to me.
I'll find the bill, it's laying around here somewhere...

I'm starting to believe that all debate on this issue is moot as long as that fact prevails. We are basically fucked. Thanks, unchecked capitalism!

That has less to do with capitalism and more to do with government. Coulter touched on one aspect of this in that video I posted.

Pharm companies don't run everything, but they do run politicians and I do believe that's why we'll never see a cure for cancer in our lifetime. There's no money in a cure- only in delaying the inevitable. The government is suppose to protect us from situations like that and Monopolies, but it's much easier to see and prove a monopoly exist than it is to prove the other.

weird, because I HAVE. without going into too many details, a child who was born with a very serious heart condition was denied by multiple doctors to be seen for infection control, due to title IX, as they had seen their limit of title IX patients for the month (or whatever the time restraint). true fucking story.

1, learn to take a joke. 2, a side effect of steroid use is acne. oh, and hair loss.

drug reps are all but obsolete now that new legislation has been put in place. they no longer hang out at the clinics, giving away things. but i agree, drug reps were horrible, minus free dinners. the whole pharmaceutical industry is fucked up.
and urgent care doctors tend to prescribe medications more liberally because they don't know the patients as well and patients are dicks. you have a few dozen patients yell that they NEED an antibiotic and you eventually stop arguing back and just start writing harmless prescriptions. it's sad but true.

but you missed a lot of my points. or just skipped them conveniently.

i hightly recommend Mercy West urgent care. the doctors there are amazing. but a lot of urgent cares are really in-and-out, fast food healthcare.
the idea, at least as i understand it and the things i have read about it, is with a universal healthcare system, people would be able to see a primary physician more often than having to settle on ER or walk in clinics, where often they cannot be denied. i think allowing poor individuals and families to afford primary visits as those who are insured will promote health among that group of people.

I worked in a walk in clinic for 5 years. Probably had contact with about a dozen Canadians. You know my stupid ass couldn't help asking them what they thought about their national healthcare system. Not one of them I talked to had good things to say about it.
