edit, on elliot's interpretation of the events...not really an edit, rather an addition...
before witch hunt played they asked me to have him removed, they explained why, i didn't witness it, and felt uncomfortable with it...then i got dustin and he talked to them, then he had brian leave, and he gave him his money back(or at least attempted to)...then witch hunt started playing...brian ran back in and started jumping up and down(during the second song i think), causing a seen, attempting to shove in witch hunt's face that he was back and not going anywhere...in which case he succeeded, and then she started calling him out and asking him to leave...

Hahah, that makes it even more hilarious. Instead of calling him out in front of us all and telling us about it, they intended to pull a shady behind-the-scenes move and have him taken out.

Once again, no one I talked to noticed Brian's comment. It wasn't a big deal, clearly not big enough to get kicked out of a show over. If he hadn't come back in, we wouldn't have heard about all this, we wouldn't have "known how to be respectful to a band," and their little argument would have been null and void.

And that doesn't change anything I said about them, either.

my assessment of this situation was based on a broader generalization of what has always existed here in my opinion, and how, given the way this particular band acted, it was no surprise to me that something like this happened.

perhaps my generalizations were out of line considering i was not at this show, but i've had friends in bands that are from similar communities who've expressed the same feelings about the vibe they've gotten here.

i suppose that what i said was probably a bit much considering the lack of shows i attend, and i tend to project my personal political feelings on something that, as much as i want it to, doesn't exist here.

still, the amount of testosterone-induced, aggressive behavior that has pervaded the shows i have attended at the HB--name calling, giant billboard of porn, disrespectful comments ,etc--is something that i don't feel comfortable around. i was assuming that witch hunt felt this way as well.

but hey, freedom of speech, right?

Really wish I would have had the money to attend this so that I could make comments on this. sounds like everyone had a really awesome time.

this was all tl,dr. pretty much where i stopped was when the band called whoever out and demanded he leave or they didnt play.

what should have happened is you take them up on it, they dont play and they dont get paid. im glad i wasnt there.

it is funny that the "thing that happened" was a ridiculous comment made by a drunk person...really something to take seriously and is always happening around here, it is tearing the scene part.
@nonymous wrote:perhaps my generalizations were out of line considering i was not at this show, but i've had friends in bands that are from similar communities who've expressed the same feelings about the vibe they've gotten here.
yes, all the bands that have played here HATE playing here and never want to come back, I'll need some proof of this. What bands exactly?
@nonymous wrote:i suppose that what i said was probably a bit much considering the lack of shows i attend, and i tend to project my personal political feelings on something that, as much as i want it to, doesn't exist here.
Shut up

there is nothing wrong with porn, males and females both participate, it isn't just for guys.

there are also plenty of girls that attend these shows on a regular basis(unlike you) and I don't think they have ever felt left out or had any problems with there being dudes around being aggressive.

Are disrespectful comments really going to crush the scene? If so then punk rock should be kicked out of society because as far as I am familiar with punk rock, it is the drunk asshole at the show telling the band how they feel.

I am glad I read this thread. Good way to waste 20+ minutes of work time this morning. That Witch Hunt band sounds like a bunch of pretentious rockstars, rather than humble punks. They actually asked some of you dudes to kick out a paying customer, before they would even play? Bahahahaha...who do they think they are? What was in their "rider."

Also....Servo....I hope you have pictures to post in the "Pictures of recent vacations" thread. Especially of the dog eating puke.

The bottom line is this... if you don't like the band, show some fucking respect by keeping your mouth shut. Go smoke, get another drink (which CLEARLY he needed) or go whine about it to your buddies outside. When you open your mouth be prepared to deal with the consequences whether you think they are fair or not, especially if you are shit-faced and belligerent.

Elliot, Witch Hunt stayed with us and whether you buy that Brian started shit and made sexist remarks the next day doesnt matter. The fact is that he did. Dustin and I both were witness to it. That kid deserves whatever he gets/got.

LOL WUT??? Go ahead and name these friends of yours in bands you speak of.

i suppose that what i said was probably a bit much considering the lack of shows i attend, and i tend to project my personal political feelings on something that, as much as i want it to, doesn't exist here.
Right. No one wants to play Crimethinc with you, therefore everything is completely fucked up.
still, the amount of testosterone-induced, aggressive behavior that has pervaded the shows i have attended at the HB--name calling, giant billboard of porn, disrespectful comments ,etc--is something that i don't feel comfortable around. i was assuming that witch hunt felt this way as well.

gahahahahahaha. Yeah, all of those knuckle-draggers who hang out at the Haunted Basement, the epicenter of masculinity in Des Moines. It might as well be a high school football team's locker room, right?

Seriously, if you and your friends feel intimidated by the wieners that hang out there I don't know what to say and how you've made it thus far in life.
but hey, freedom of speech, right?
Yeah, that and being an adult about tolerating little things you may not 100% agree with.

I listened to that live show but I couldn't make out what that bitch was saying. I hate to Monday morning quarterback and say "I woulda ...." but that sort of shit shouldn't have been tolerated from them. You should have called their bluff and told them to leave then.... or throw shit at them or beat them up.

I am very curious to know what he said that was "sexist," since it sounds like your definition of that word is a little more broad than most people's. Even if he did say something the next day, that had nothing to do with the show the night before. Witch Hunt may be a lot of things, but they can't see into the future.

And once again, Dustin said all of us were supporting sexism, which is a baseless claim he just felt like throwing at us, and I'm still waiting for an explanation for it, if there even is one.

Well, I dont know what you heard, but on both days I heard the words "cunt" out of his mouth which to me and most women is hugely offensive. Anyone who uses that term in a negative way, in my book, deserves a good ass kicking.

Anybody that calls a male a "dick" should be kicked in the cunt. I find the D word highly offensive.

As far as the sound complaints at the social club. I totally understand. when we played there, they had two decent sized speakers in the back that they didn't want to go through the inconvenience of moving to the front for us. And after I offered to do it, they kindly allowed me to not be inconvenienced either and said we shouldn't move them. We then plugged our turntables into a bass amp, which sounded great.

We are playing there this weekend, hopefully the sound is better.

oh yeah, and the rest of this shit is ridiculous.. get over it. I have been called about any derogatory name you can think of while on stage all over the country. If you can't brush it off, or turn it around you should probably stop touring. Having thick skin is part of being an artist.

Cunts and dicks need to join together rather than fighting all the time. Why can't a cunt call a dick a dick and a dick call a cunt a cunt. let's learn to embrace our dickness and cuntness and use it in a positive way rather than letting it cause wars.
