I've got a place for you NOT to eat...

That would be the Gateway Market. They eliminated all but one of their veg options from their basic menu. What'd they leave? The portobello sandwich. SICK. That's the ultimate cop-out vegetarian bullshit option, and I will not eat it.

That place is kind of a hoity-toity joke anyway, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Fuck that place. Their tofu scrambler suuucked anyway.

I've noticed that they didn't seem to have much of a veg selection, which seemed odd to me. You'd think they'd throw a few things on the menu to at least be on the "cutting edge" or some shit. Been spending a lot of time with a vegan girl lately so I'm starting to pay more attention to those sort of things.

Anyways, yeah, hoity-toity. Like what I was saying about Bistro Montage earlier in the thread, Gateway is another place I feel a little out of my element. It's a little too uh, Roosevelt-esque for my liking.

Unfortunately to my knowledge there aren't any places around here where you can get high(er) brow food in a setting similar to say, Coney Island on SW 9th or some other place I'd feel a little more at home.

I am a big fan of Gateway's Cuban sandwich though.

Gateway sells tofu that Hy Vee sells for $3 for $6.

Fuck that place.
Dumpster isn't so good either.

if you want tofu you should buy it from an asian grocer. it's usually around the $1.50 to $2.50 range. and it's good not shitty tofu.

I went to the Methodist Hospital Cafeteria for some late night breakfast after a night out. I don't see why this isn't the after hours breakfast hotspot. You can get a huge breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, omeletes, ham, etc..) cooked fresh on the grill right in front of your very own eyes for less than $5 and you don't have to tip anybody. It's open until 4 and then reopened at 5 if you're up really, really late.

There used to be that place called Soul African Cafe or something a LONG time ago. Isn't there also a catering place called Cookry that specializes in African food? As for a restaurant...don't think so?

Cookry was across from Hairy Mary's and closed.

Other than that, I believe there's an African grocery store near "the dub pub" where you can buy goat or some shit.

I always intended on checking out Ethiopian restaurants in DC whenever I was out there but never got around to it. I hear it's good but most of it doesn't sound that appealing. Plus there's only so much UN chickpeas and rice I can handle.
