I don't know if I would go that far. Obviously it is getting more popular thanks to Flogging Molly and Dropkick, but I can't see a it ever having the popularity that ska has had. Lots of bands that try it, The Vandon Arms included, can't pull it off live. It has always been a lot easier to find a trumpet player than a tin whistle player or a piper. A lot of people who like the genre expect that instrumentation.

Old news. The Real McKenzies of Canada.

I thought "Loch'd and Loaded" was a pretty good album, but I didn't dig the other album I bought of theirs. They played at Hairy Mary's a few years ago and it was kind of a let-down. I expected a lot more of a lively, drunken set but really it was kind of dull. Maybe it was because it was all-ages, I don't know.

Now Joe, I understand that this thread is not full of your friends or discussion on local bands, thrash or ska-core but is there any need for chiming in with your passive-aggressive shit talking here?

PS: Oi Polloi sucks. They weren't mentioned as Scottish punk as they didn't try to sound distinctively Scottish (not saying that's a bad thing)

i don't understand what that means. they're definitely not traditional sounding, with the exception of a few songs. cuz they're definitely nothing like any of this junk.
as far as hardcore goes, they were totally fucking brutal. way heavier than most anything else at the time. listen to the guilty ep or even resist the atomic menace.

I mean they do not sound distinctively Scottish as in bagpipes, "Flower of Scotland" covers, songs about the fucking Loch Ness Monster or something and so-on.

When Beaver mentioned something about a Scottish punk band, I assume he did not mean a band that sounds like Oi Polloi and/or Baker's Dozen but yet a band that sounds distinctively Scottish with the above mentioned bagpipes, songs about Scottish stuff, etc, etc.

I don't care how good you think Oi Polloi was, their sound cannot be nailed down to Scotland and/or the descendents of people from Scotland like the Real McKenzies can. That's why Oi Polloi is not a good example of what Beaver was talking about.... I think.

This is pretty funny.

There's the classic skinhead reggae track "Loch Ness Monster", but that really doesn't have anything to do with Nessie.

My god, how many times did your parents drop you on your head? Or Polloi is by far the worst UK Oi! band ever. (Noticed I said Uk Oi! band).

Flogging Molly is by far the cream of the crop when it comes to the Irish Punk thing. I know you are Young and all but I have to point out the fushion of Punk and Traditional Irish music is nothing new. Can you say "Pogues". Hell half of the UK first generation was Irish.

Yes, including everything that came out after Op Ivy. Then again there is a couple of Rancid songs that are Ok and the Bostones are a joy.

No, wait, yes fuck Ska-core and pig skull fuck straight-edge ska-core from Ohio.

They were lumped into the early 80s UK Oi!/Street Punk scene, along with a lot of other bands and were in fact considered a Oi! Skinhead band but then again so was the Exploited.

I always associated Oi Polloi with the patch pants crowd. Matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen a pair of patch pants without an Oi Polloi patch.
