Alright, I'm gonna post a few albums for you guys. They're gonna come in a slow trickle as I upload them.
(CLICK ON THE ALBUM ARTWORK TO DOWNLOAD)
First up:
The Strange Boys - And Girls Club
There's nothing original about this group, but they are really awesome at what they do: Kinks-style bluesy pop songs. I saw them play as an opener in Austin a few years ago... they stuck in my head and I recently stumbled onto their catalog online. Sweet stuff.

Bobbi Humphrey - Blacks and Blues
Essential shit. One of my favorite funk records. Flute-driven instrumentals... badass.

The Budos Band - III
This record was just released. Budos Band are instrumental funk, heavy on the brass with afro-soul flavor. Sounds like what I imagine music from a 70's Ethiopian spy movie would be like.

The Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus
Early English punk/new wave band. This is their first record. Kind of similar to The Fall, or XTC, but they have a distinct darker sound.

The Shangri-Las - The Best of the Shangri-Las
The quintessential girl group. Short, fun songs. Paved the way for the Ramones etc. blah blah blah you should have this in your collection if you don't already.

Abner Jay - One Man Band
Per the title, Abner Jay was a one-man band. He can be classified as an outsider artist... very eccentric in his personality and his music. He played folk and blues. I guess you could say he sounds like Junior Kimbraugh gone completely unhinged. Channeling Wesley Willis long before Willis performed his first head-butt. I highly recommend giving this at least one listen all the way through even if you're not a fan of blues.

Timmy Thomas - Why Can't We Live Together
Timmy Thomas is best known for the title track of this collection, which was one of the first singles to make use of a drum machine. Most of his music is pretty standard soul, some of it leaning towards disco. Why Can't We Live Together is such an awesome track though, it's worth downloading the whole thing for. Not everything on this album lives up to that standard, but there are a few other great songs on here.
