DJANGO

no, not Mr. Reinhardt.

no, not the sweet Mexi-ghetti western.

Went to a soft opening of the new restaurant Django last night.

it's where 43 used to be, attached to Hotel Fort Des Moines.

I was definitely impressed. Nice decor, reminiscent of Azalea but a little more cavernous. Plush booth seating and classic straight line table/chairs. HUGE horseshoe bar with an oyster/clam/seafood/charcuterie station in the middle.

Had lobster and crab cakes to start
Then a NY Strip with a Roquefort sauce and steak fries.

for any booze fans....they have a 25 yr. Talisker Scotch....it's like butter.

My only complaint is I got the distinct impression our waitress was at one time Amish. There was just something about her slow awkwardness.

highly recommended, opens next week I believe.
i need a shower, a shave and maybe a song with a melody

Mindy went to this... didn't have as many good things to say about it as you did. But she didn't eat anything close to what you did.

I've talked to a few others who had some mixed vibes, but they were mostly things that could be fixed with a mention to the staff by the time they're fully operational.

also, best oysters i've ever had in Iowa.
