Tax Time

Post by El Rhino » Thu Feb 28, 2008 6:13 pm

Just filed my taxes on TurboTax. Looks like I'm getting about $2500 from the Federales and about $500 from the state. Last year I think I got $400 from federal and owed state about $400 because of capital gains taxes. This year I had a ton of shit to write off, about $1000 in donations, $3000 in education expenses, about $6000 in mortgage insurance and property taxes, so that helped quite a bit.

So I'm looking at buying a new camera, like a good one. I'm thinking maybe a Canon Rebel or something. Maybe an AK-47 or a 12 gauge too. I've got a few small things I want to buy with the money and the rest gets put away in a savings account I have earmarked for travel, hopefully for a trip to the UK or Argentina, depending on the time of the year.

So how'd everyone else do?

I'll probably buy a bunch of shit that ten minutes later I feel like I shouldn't have bought.

i owe a total of $439 to state and federal. in regards to the ak-47, i reccomend you buy the parts kit and just assemble it yourself, you can get the red dot scope and you can pick the stock. my friend has a few ak's.

ryan-get an AK-47. that would be so sweet. that is the first gun i ever shot. i was 8 years old.

i got 1200 bucks back. i bought a PDA for nursing school off ebay really cheap. the rest, i'm just kinda sitting on so i can continue to afford rent while in school.
Even today, I can't see a car run a red light without instantly having an image flash into my head of a man's erect penis, penetrating a watermelon.

I got $500 back this year, which is pretty sweet for me. I paid off the next 4 months of my car payment with it. Woo.

Did you move already or are you staying at your condo for a while?

Instead of the "go go gadget phone" thing, I think your title should be "answer the tele-pwn". That would be sweet.

heh, yeah I don't know when that showed up....

Anyways, it looks like I'll be Clive trash. I put an offer on one, and have a offer(complicated.. the gash is in the middle of a divorce and you can not legally buy property w/o having your spouse on the title) on mine. Even if it falls through I'll be getting this place the deal is too good to pass up, going for 20Gs under the assessed value. So hopefully it doesn't come down to having two mortgages. Oh yeah, it also happens to be just down the bend from Dave Huck's old house right by Indian Hills.

Regardless of your stance on gun control, using that money to buy an ak-47 or whatever just seems like a complete waste of money to me....i mean, unless you're a psycho, you'll never put that thing to use to the extent that it was made for.

And if you claim to be a "gun enthusiast" or "hobbiest" or whatever... what the fuck kind of hobby is that? I just can't comprehend dropping a few benjis or whatever just for the sake of being able to put my finger on a trigger, hold it there, and watch zillions of bullets fly out into a field (or range or target or whatever) while i'm doing it.

Seems pretty goddamn simple and plain, like a hobby that should be relegated exclusively to retards with aggression problems or something....

Not trying to be a dick; that's just the way that it logically adds up for me. Feel free to prove me wrong or whatever...
i fucking rule.

Last time a friend and I even inquired about the rates at a shooting club/gun range, I was amazed at the cost of simple membership. May as well go all out.

What's the accuracy like from an AK, Rhino? Video games have those guns spraying all over the place, but I could see a maintenanced real life model performing well.

edit: wiki on the AK- when fitted with an upgraded sight, it has an effective range of around 285 meters
holy shit

My taxes are covering rent and most of my music gear credit.

I really really need some new gear, specifically a bass rig. But SXSW seems so much more enticing!

i got 9600 back from federal and had to pay state 700. i put 2k in a bank account, paid off one of my lawyers, paid off a bunch on my van, bought a ruger .357 revolver with a 6" barrel, modified my remington 870 12 gauge so it now has a paratrooper stock and a fore-end pistol grip. tits. i also bought back my sks. i bought more stuff for my suit so now its mostly complete. all i really need to do now is buy nice brogues and the fedora i've been wanting. the brogues i can get in williamsburg so no biggie, just getting the time is all. i actually did a lot of good stuff with my return this year instead of pissing it all away. a little got pissed away but not much.

as far as musical gear, all i need is a microphone and i'm waiting on mark to hook me up with his guy for that. shirts will be made with this money and some recording also.

Compared to an M-16/AR-15, the accuracy is not very good. I wouldn't let someone shoot an apple off my head at 50 yards with one of those or anything.

The Soviets definitely had a quantity over quality frame of mind when it came to military technology.

apples and oranges. i agree with crumpty.
when my brother was back for xmas he bought some 1500 dollar rifle. i thought it was probably the stupidest decision he's ever made (besides joining the army). on top of that the shells for the thing are like $30 dollars a box. its just pointless to me to blow that type of money and then have to pay outrageous prices just to "enjoy" it.

It was just a smart-ass response to a condescending post I shouldn't have even dignified with an answer anyway.

Anyways, thanks for everyone's concern on how I plan to spend $400. Maybe I should spend it wisely on large bar tabs and weed?
