FUCK. i literally just sent an email saying i could work friday night. now i'll miss this show. goddamn bullshit.
Even today, I can't see a car run a red light without instantly having an image flash into my head of a man's erect penis, penetrating a watermelon.

Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews

school??
Iowa hardcore presentation/show Friday
It makes sense that just a few months after my brother graduated from Drake that the school would offer a "The Meaning of Punk" seminar. That trumps the coolest class I took in college (Sci Fi/Fantasy Writing) by far.
This Friday a student in the class, Martin Roth, will be giving a presentation on Iowa hardcore tied to the class. It starts at 6 p.m. Friday at the Vaudeville Mews and features Nathan Morton Eric Creach, Dan Siskind, Nate Fetus and Jeffrey Eaton. It's a good representation of Des Moines' hardcore/punk scene from the 80s to today.
After that In Defence and Rat Storm will perform. Based on this event alone, I think Martin deserves an A for the course. Admission is $7.
school??
Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews

Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews
i think matt should teach this class.
Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews
i dont understand.
i made sure to miss the speeches.
i liked rat storm but did not like the in between song banter. in defence is in defence.
this really felt like selling out my youth and culture to a bunch of rich kids.
why were the only bands from out of state?
"if youre not now, you never were."

because it was put together by someone who knows nothing about the subject, and asked the first people he saw that he thought were "punk".joseph wrote:this really felt like selling out my youth and culture to a bunch of rich kids.

stupid idots, next semester lets learn how to talk like rapers
i probably shouldve gone in earlier but ... i got upset like a whiny little baby. watching college students "slam dance, mosh, pogo" or whatever it was they were doing for the first time.
rat storms singer used to be one of his students. i thought they sounded like antischism.
i know im supposed to be why dont we all get along and shit but punk rock was what i was driven towards by being excluded from everything else as a kid. it helped me be me and not a corporate drone. i never fit in and still dont really.... im rambling.
Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews
everyone knows Davo is the true professor
Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews
the thing im actually interested in is how much did drake pay the bands? and if they did why was it 7 bucks to get in?
Re: In Defence - 9/16 @ Mews
That explains why it was only outta state bands. either way, I think it's silly. cus you can put 20 diffrent people in a room and get 20 diffrent opinions of what it means to be punk. espically after over 30 years and all the punk sub genres that have poped up in that time
