itunes help
i just bought a new computer and installed i tunes. i store my music on an external hard drive cuz i have a shitload of it. when i try to import it, it will get hung up on one song and freeze up itunes. why is it doing this? do i need to keep my itunes music on my computer?

try going to edit> preferences>advanced and then check and see what the default folder is. Just change it to the one for your HD.

hmmm after i did that it's still the same. it starts to import but then gets hung up on some coliseum song, and itunes quits responding.

probably file corruption. run disk utility or whatever filesystem utility windows uses to repair your external disk. if it still doesn't work you'll have to delete or skip the song. there will probably be others. it's pretty rare to have just one corrupt file.

Before deleting songs try playing them in a different media play like WMP, VLC, or Spotify. This is especially the case if you are using a PC. Part of the problem maybe that the drive name keeps changing when you plug the external drive in. So itunes thinks the file location is empty or doesn't exist. Years ago I had this problem with itunes when I stored music on my portable hard drive switched to WMP and never had the problem again.
Personally I found that itunes runs like complete dog shit on PCs. Last time I used it, in a two hour period it froze up at least 30 times and after that I unistalled the thing swearing never to run another Apple program again.
