ATTN MARK/JOEY/MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE
hey so i just got this 88 range rover and it seems like the parking brake will not properly disengage. i haven't driven it much, but when i do it doesn't idle forward so that leads me to believe the brake is still somewhat on. any idea on how i disengage it? i don't want to drive it as it is for fear of totally fucking it up, but i have to get it registered.
Re: ATTN MARK/JOEY/MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE
dumb question i know. did you check the brake and tranny fluid levels?
Re: ATTN MARK/JOEY/MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE
when you engage/disengage e brake does everything feel smooth or does it feel like its binding?
Re: ATTN MARK/JOEY/MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE
usually you can see ebrake adjustments under vehicle without tearing anything apart.
i know nothing about range rovers and youre in co. you should be driving a subaru.

all levels are good. def feels binding. i guess some dude who test drove it before i bought it wailed real hard on it and now the lever will not go all the way down. i'll get some pics to help you see what i'm talking about.
Re: ATTN MARK/JOEY/MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE

this is where it's stuck at. i can push it down, and the button will click, but it will just pop back up to there.

Re: ATTN MARK/JOEY/MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE
ok so i did some tinkering and i narrowed down the problem. i took a few pieces of the console off and noticed that the wire connected to the lever was crimped/pinched and that prevented it from going down the hole (hyuk hyuk hyuk). so instead of sliding down in, it was bending towards the top and that's why the lever wouldn't stay in the off position. hard to get a good pic, but i got one of the wire. i am holding it from where it bolts into the lever.
now what.
now what.

Is this a manual transimission or an automatic? If it's an auto, cut that bitch and get on with your life. Chances are the crimp is the problem, see if you can straighten it out and get it to work. Like I said, if it's an automatic, cut it and forget you ever had a parking brake.
Another common problem is the hub freezing up, giving the impression that a brake is stuck. When it's real cold and wet at the same time, sometimes the guts of the brake drums will freeze up. Try beating on them with a small sledge hammer and see if that does anything for you.
