Re: vargs, please explains to me djentcores in greats details
Djent metal referring to bands such as Periphery, Sikth (sort of), and I suppose even Meshuggah. Typically using very low tuning (i.e. 7 or 8 string guitars) in conjunction with drop tuning. I've seen some very bizarre tunings though, like in the case of Sikth who are only using 6 string guitars with the E tuned down to G or G#- fucking retarded, great band though.
Focus on being HEAVY while still being very rhythmic and melodic. Also a heavy emphasis on TIGHTNESS. Very important. Clean vocals are often used- which give the genre a "classier" status.
The people in these bands seem to be huge gear nerds with an endless supply of money to piss away on gear.
Core obviously refers to what real metal fans hate about metal. Core has become synonymous with break-down, repetition, homosexual, and unoriginal. ATB has a lot of breakdowns, but I contend that they've at least tried to make them creative and original. Like in the case of "Pi"- which they give a whole explanation of in one of their myspace blogs. Their explanation was a long-winded and inaccurate way of saying "it's a polyrhythm" so I won't bother posting it.
ATB I would say is a -core band, with djent elements. They're far more melodic and harmony driven than any other core band. Some of the transitions make me cringe though.

Bingo. I think this is what pissed me off the most when I was introduced to this band.Varg wrote:Like in the case of "Pi"- which they give a whole explanation of in one of their myspace blogs. Their explanation was a long-winded and inaccurate way of saying "it's a polyrhythm"

Not really.
I usually need to be reminded of things now-a-days, though.

Oh, I don't know who that is. I guess I went to a vegan restaurant in DC years ago that was ran by black Jews. That place sucked.
*Edit: That definitely wasn't my choice to go there.
