Anyone else do any home modding?
Said I was going to make a thread like this a while back, finally got pix up and hosted. This is all I'm really into anymore... Throw up pix of projects, yeah Varg even your 'modded' chin up bar will qualify.
This is what I've been up to moved in May 08 all work done by Thanksgiving 08
KITCHEN
BEFORE
AFTER
Had to lower the ceiling 5" to fit the can lights
Took out a window to fit the cabinets, same cabinets just moved them and refinished them
Really miss the faux brick laminate
Put down bamboo on the whole first flr
BATH
BEFORE
AFTER
FAMILY ROOM
BEFORE
AFTER
The living room became the workshop hahaha
Cut down a tree to make room for a third stall drive.
Strarted all of this in the spring 09wrapped it up late summer09.
Before (not our decor btw, jesus)
During- same vanity built a concrete countertop, pretty easy to do really. Build a form out of vinyl coated particle board, caulk the seams. You build it upside down basically. Dye some concrete, pour, break off the mold. Hardest part was getting it upstairs. 2 people, needed more like 4.
Built a frame for this mirror(just cut the old one down to size) wrapped it in leather,
ok ok Pleather. The mirror is hung w/ just reg. mirror clips and the frame mounts over.
Yeah added a light in the recessed shower shelf why not?
wish the light output was a little better though...
I used those aluminum stop strips usually for transistions/breaks to carpet
on all of the border of the tiling including here. I like this look better plus
they don't make a bullnose in the tile I had odered. (I sprayed it all w/ clear just incase of rust.)
Heated floor w/ programmable T-stat for the haters
Basement
Had hired an outfit to redo the drainage tiling around the house(from the inside) because I'm planning on finishing the basement and wanted to make sure water would never be a problem. So while they were working they had a jackhammer and I was like "lemme see that" and quickly banged out my drain lines For a shower/shitter/sink. Not much to see inside the actual bathroom: bargain vanity, stand up shower stall heh, it's the basement  It's Dave Huckleberry's bathroom for christ's sake.

looks great, were slowly tackling each room in our house, we just finished the bathroom, there were a lot of issues that came up with it though, some that we are still trying to figure out, i need to reinstall the shower...fucking stupid...anyways i will post some pics of that soon, i think we have before and after...im working on gutting and refinishing a small cabin for a friend, and i just got a job redoing somebodys kitchen and bathroom. i thoroughly enjoy remodeling. our house is so fucking jacked though from shotty work in the past.

that aluminum stop strip idea on your tile is great, im going to steal that, we had the same problem...
Re: Anyone else do any home modding?
Wow, dude, that's some impressive work. I wish I had any sort of construction talents at all. Looks fun and is surely rewarding to do all the work yourself. I really like the cabinets in your kitchen and the hardwood floors too. Is that cherry?
Re: Anyone else do any home modding?
It's pre-finished, bamboo... not trying to sound like a pompous douche but it's actually a grass(a renewable source) and not a hardwood. Yeah I just saved the environment.

Re: Anyone else do any home modding?
bet you felt a lot safer cutting away at that tree with Dave spotting you.
looks super nice. I didn't get a chance to see the upstairs when I was in town but the apartment you made in the basement was pretty cool, like what you did with those panels on the wall.

All that's missin' is the retired band teacher with the self-inflicted gunshot wound!

Re: Anyone else do any home modding?
That's pretty damn sweet. I don't even know how to fix the leaky sink in my bathroom. Sometimes changing lightbulbs is a major challenge as well...
i fucking rule.
