joy division fans
so i was at a show with jim about a month back and i heard what i thought was a neurosis cover playing over the pa. so i asked the dude running sound and he said neurosis actually covered day of the lords. so i just downloaded closer, unknown pleasures, and an ideal for living and was wondering if some of you could point me towards other good stuff they have done.
thanks!
thanks!

Re: joy division fans
That's the best of it right there... there's a good box set called Heart and Soul, too. Of course you could always grab some earlier New Order stuff which is pretty similar. Brotherhood and Substance would be good choices for NO... Substance has a lot of songs that were originally Joy Division songs.
All that's missin' is the retired band teacher with the self-inflicted gunshot wound!

Re: joy division fans
both those albums are excellent. there are a few excellent live recordings around too.
Re: joy division fans
yeah, those are the only three records you need. other than that it's mostly just reissues/comps/bullshit unnecessary releases.

Re: joy division fans
ok, thanks for the info, guys.
Re: joy division fans
tyler if you like that you should also listen to New Order's Power Corruption Lies album. It's Joy Division without Ian Curtis. Brilliant shit. I'm glad you're getting into Joy Division.

Look for a cd called Warsaw. Sometimes it's under Joy Division, sometimes it's just Warsaw. It's their first album, only available as a bootleg I think. More of a punk sound.
Also, as far as New Order is concerned, Movement is mostly Joy Division songs that they never recorded, as is the single Ceremony/In a Lonely Place, which is one of the best singles ever. And any live New Order bootlegs from 81/82 is great.

tyler you should also watch the movie 24 Hour Party People if you haven't seen it. It covers Joy Division and a bunch of other bands from that music scene. There are some other great bands in that movie, for instance a Certain Ratio, they sound like a funkier Joy Division.
Re: joy division fans
