PS3 price drop finally coming

Post by Nick » Tue Aug 18, 2009 2:03 pm

The PS3 Slim will have a 120GB hard drive, will consume 34% less power and will be 32% smaller. Oh, and the price? $299! That's €299, $299 US, and ¥29,980. There will also be a $100 price drop on any other current inventory of "1st Gen" PS3s.

Good price but not enough for me to go out and buy one. Not enough exclusive games I'm interested in. Probably going to force Microsoft to drop the price of the 360 again.

I'm stoked for quite a few of the PS3 exclusives lined up for late this year/next year.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (this game will be sick)
MAG
White Knight Chronicles
God of War 3
Heavy Rain (very interesteed in this game. I loved Indigo Prophecy)
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Gran Turismo 5
Project Trico
Upcoming Jojima game

Most of these games are not only exclusives, but will actually sell PS3's.

There are some games that I'd like to play on the PS3 but with a backlog of 360 games I still want to play there's no way for me to justify buying another console.

And the biggest reason that I'm not going to buy one - No backward compatibility with PS2. The only reason I stuck with PS was the game investment, now I'm going to wait and see on how good xbox NATAL turns out. Sure Blue Ray player might be nice but Sony get your shit together it's been 2 years now.
I paid my dues but I lost my Receipt.

You can still find ps3's that are backwards compatible. The MGS4 bundle was the last batch, but I know you can find those. And the prices on those perhaps will drop too in the resale market. Either that or they will skyrocket because of the backwards compat.

Any game I have compared between xbox and ps3 though looks remarkably better on the ps3, but the system is still too damn expensive.

backwards compatibility really shouldn't be the determining factor. If you are thinking about buying a PS3 you should buy one for the PS3 games not for the backwards compatibility, because xbox isn't backwards either, minus a select number of titles. you can buy playstations and ps2s for dirt cheap nowadays. PS3 sooooo owns on xbox like hard. people who buy xbox 360s are GENERALLY stupid. if you don't think so check the newest issue of Game Informer. MICROSOFT GETS PWNED!
