I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this because I would've spit it all over my monitor laughing. So whenever something happens on Mondamin, Forest Avenue or MLK I can just assume it's wandering Drake students holding that neighborhood hostage? I heard that there was lots of yelling of "Bulldogs rule!!!" during the 4th of July melee over there.

I'd also like to point out that you (I believe) live in the more gentrified part of the Drake area and your neighbors are more likely to be college students and/or white as opposed to the more, uh, traditional resident of that area. I could be wrong about your location though, but I think it has been pointed out to me.
the one time in the history i've lived in the area that i can think of anyone getting assaulted with a gun was white folks (i'm not sure about the recent shooting, but that was in a whiter part, so....).
i admitted my memory is not all that great, but the really violent crimes i remember were all crackers.
i lived on 31st and rutland, but recently moved to 26th area.
Even today, I can't see a car run a red light without instantly having an image flash into my head of a man's erect penis, penetrating a watermelon.

You know, for as "fucked up" as my world view may be I think it's kind of funny that all it gets countered with is "that's racist!", "that's fucked up!" and "you're wrong!". Not very convincing, gents.

I'm also sure you're a little off-base as far as what my world view is.

Anyways...

I'm going to make another prediction here...

No one ever said they couldn't be there because they were black. The story says that the staff told them this and we will find out that no one actually said anything like that. This will end up like the Jena 6 or the Duke Lacrosse thing where we find out later that someone stretched the truth a little bit...

This private "club" is just fucking ridiculous. Seems they are now asking the kids to come back. Wait a minute...wasn't it just last week you kicked them all out because they didn't fit the "complexion and atmosphere of the club", but now (since you were obviously caught in your bigoted ways) you are willing to change your club's "complexion" just so you can try and save face? Fuck you, Valley Swim Club. At least stick to your fucking guns if that is was your reason for kicking them out in the first place.

Club Accused of Racism Asks Kids Back
By RON TODT, AP
posted: 36 MINUTES AGO
PHILADELPHIA (July 13) - A private suburban swim club accused of racism after it canceled the memberships of dozens of minority children says it will seek a meeting with the kids' camps to work out an agreement for them to return.

Amy Goldman, a member of The Valley Club, said those able to attend a hastily called meeting Sunday afternoon voted unanimously in support of reinstating the memberships of the Creative Steps day camp and two other camps as long as safety issues, times and terms can be agreed upon.

The Creative Steps camp had arranged for 65 mostly black and Hispanic children to swim each Monday afternoon at the gated Huntingdon Valley club, which is on a leafy hillside in a village straddling two overwhelmingly white townships. But after the group arrived June 29, camp director Alethea Wright said, several children reported hearing racial comments and some swim club members pulled their children out of the pool.
The camp's $1,950 was refunded a few days later.

The president of the swim club's board of directors, John Duesler, has said the decision was made out of safety considerations, not racial concerns.

"We have near-unanimous approval from our membership, so at this point we'll be figuring out ... how to approach all the camps and see how we can move forward,'' Duesler told WPVI-TV at the club's entrance on Sunday.

The swim club has claimed it has a diverse, multiethnic membership, but Goldman, a member for two years, said she couldn't remember seeing a black member this year.

Goldman said members were told that the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, which has opened an investigation, is to make a fact-finding visit to the club July 30. U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., said Friday he had asked the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate "to determine what action, if any, is warranted by the Civil Rights Division.''

Others to criticize the club include the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the United States' highest-profile black swimmer, Olympic gold medalist Cullen Jones, who said Thursday that "hearing about what's happened to these 65 kids is both disturbing and appalling.''

Chuck Wielgus, executive director of USA Swimming, the governing body for the U.S. swim team, said he was stunned by the accusations against the club.

Wright, the camp director, didn't immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Sunday evening. She said earlier that other institutions had offered to host her group at their pools for the summer.

Camp parent Silvia Carvalho said she hadn't heard about the club's action but didn't believe her 9-year-old daughter, Araceli, would be willing to return.

"She has already said so,'' Carvalho said Sunday night. "She doesn't want people to look at her the same way.''

Why? Disney World is pretty massive. The odds of even encountering that group of kids would be pretty slim. You know what IS annoying while at Disney World? Massive groups of Brazillian tourists. They are all over there during our Winter months, for their Summer vacations. Thousands and they travel in these huge groups of like 100+ all wearing the same thing.

I've been around my share of Brazilian tourists. No problems there... Well, except with one group of them at a duty free shop who decided that it was ok to keep going back and getting things while at the checkout counter. Maybe on the day you went to Disney World they had plucked a bunch of unruly slum-dwellers out of Rio de Janerio. I was amongst sophisticated paulistanos.

I read the article about the professor and his woes being a black man in America. Believe me, I shed a tear for him.

obviously the prof. overreacted, but he absolutely should not have been arrested.

once his identification was verified, either the officer should have heard him out, or left the scene. it's BS to arrest someone for being agitated (excessively, yes, but not completely without warrant) by police presence on their own property, especially when no crime had taken place. the cop was just trying to save face... an officer of the law should hold themselves above punitive actions like that. "causing a disturbance".. pfsh.

***it's also hard to understand why many black people jump to the conclusion of racial profiling if you've never experienced it. it DOES happen often, and unfortunately it all too easily colors a person's perception of police action, legitimate or not... it's a self-perpetuating cycle.

According to the police report that's pretty much what the officer tried to do. Whether or not the guy needed to be arrested, I don't know. None of us do. From what it sounds like he was interfering with an official act (that act being the police officer investigating a potential break-in) and it seems like a lot of paperwork and effort to just decide to cuff 'em and stuff 'em if he didn't think there was a good reason to do so. If this guy broke some laws, there's no immunity for simply being black, vocal and having a high socioeconomic status...which is the angle this guy was obviously trying to work. The megalomania of these people is amazing. How hard is it to say "Oh no, I live here. I'm <insert his name here>. Everything is fine", really?

I would imagine that if I threw a brick with "keep the South Side white and strong" written on it through the window of one of the many minority occupied dwellings in my immediate area it would be cause for national emergency and if I were caught it would be a hate crime with a year or two in prison.

What the hell happened to you? You're starting to sound like a Republican.

Willing to bet it is on the taxpayer's dime. Hopefully Obama and Gates don't decide to "get crunk" and bust out the Cavasier or Hennesy since they're not footing the bill.

youre really that upset that he's having two dudes over for a couple beers to solve a conflict?
and as far as your dollar goes, your share of paying for him to hang out with two dudes would be less than a dollar.
and i don't see how this makes him a communist/marxist/socialist. by the way, these things aren't synonyms.
i think this is a real non-issue.

OH!ED!!!oh fuck....ok, first of all, the president most likely got involved because he is/was 'good friends' with the victim. second, i don't know what i would consider myself these days, i know what i'm not, and thats about it... it is a non-issue in all reality, but at the same time i don't really see it justified to use tax dollars to fund money for bud light, and most likely transportation...also is the presidents salary paid for by citizens of the U.S.? i would assume so, i am curious....3 of all, the second half of my initial statement was inspired by conservative talk radio...which i do enjoy listeninig to...i hate to say it, but i find myself agreeing with a good handful of Michael Savage's(Weiner) views, only for different reasons...ie, not everything comes down to gawd in the end for me...I guess im a free thinker...lol
