Riot Fest 2009

Post by DaVo » Thu Jun 04, 2009 4:24 pm

I'm sure something will come up at the last minute for the 5 year in a row and I'll not be able to go but here's what they have so far.

October 7th through 12th
Screeching Weasel
NOFX
Alkaline Trio
Murder City Devils
the Dead Milkmen
Cock Sparrer

I'm sure they will fill it out with a bunch of regional and not that interesting national bands. I think the only band I haven't seen on that list is Cock Sparrer but they would be worth the trip. Other than NOFX and The Dead Milkmen not much else of interest.

riotfest last year was seriously one of the worst shows ive ever been to. the ergs ruuuled. but the schedule kept getting pushed back, so ALL played for 20 minutes before the cops shut the show down.
also, having to stand in line for over an hour to get in=bullshit

that said, i never dont wanna see nofx or the dead milkmen

I'm planning on seeing Cocksparrer, I didn't know they were playing as part of Riot Fest though, that kind of turns me off.

So yeah, I'll go see Cocksparrer and come home.

Sounds like The Social Chaos Tour in 99. Sure it was cool to see UK Subs, The Business and Anti-Heros but they kept adding bands, having kids come up on stage and play songs and all this over useless shit. So by the time the band I had been waiting to see for like 15 years comes on stage, TSOL, they got to play for like 15minutes. I was soooooooooo pissed. Oh and they let DRI play a 80 minute set?

I've seen All a couple of times, I think they could play all their best songs in less then 20 minutes.

So is that a double negative meaning you want to see NOFX and the Dead Milkmen?

So I'm guessing this is a fly out show with no other dates?

If this is at the Congress again, then fuck that. Worst sound in Chicago.

Also....I heard this shit is five days long. That is way too long for a festival of any sort. This is a punk fest, not fucking Bonaroo or some hippie festival.

That being said, Dead Milkmen would fucking rule. I would kill to see Screeching Weasel with the full original lineup, but I know Jughead won't be there, so this won't even be the real band. I've seen NOFX at least a dozen times and they are always a blast, but they would NOT be the deciding factor as to whether or not I went.

I'll have to wait and see what other bands get confirmed, but as it looks now, I'll pass.

Yeah but they're actually playing a handful of shows in the US this year at various times. They just played a show in Austin and San Antonio, San Fransisco later this year and then two nights in Chicago. Had I known it was on Riot Fest I would've tried to make arrangements to see them in San Antonio. I haven't been down there in years.

They're also playing a place in Spain, Amsterdam and Belgrade. Usually the 'sparrer plays maybe one show a year in Europe, they're going to be busy this year.

They are back together and unless they are off the smack, they shouldn't put out another record. The last one sucked. Oh and Spencer should never be allowed to write another song about Truck Drivers, Sailors, cowboys or other mythical grown-up man child characters ever again.

If you're talking about the Thelema EP, then you are a wrong dude. I would love to see this band again.

MCD were always generic cliché and lame. Boringest band ever. Also the inspiration of seemingly every bad "scene" fad circa 2000/2001. Sailor tattoos and belt buckles rule dudes.
All that's missin' is the retired band teacher with the self-inflicted gunshot wound!

Funny but the first time I booked them was 98 or 99. They were a little ahead of the curve but they became boring by the third record and started sucking. The thing I've always found funny is they were all hardcore kids that thought it would be fun to do this whole punk/glam/rock and roll thing cause no one was doing it and then discovered that there was this huge scene already doing it. They were good but I really wonder if they would have gotten as big if they wouldn't have been Sub Poops Great White Hope?

I bought a record of theirs in 98. It seemed like a watered-down introductory version of the garage rock I was already way into at the time, but targeted at a punk/hardcore audience. Hence why I feel the need to jump in and talk 'em down ten years later

I think this is how it's been lined up so far:

Wednesday October 7th - Riot Fest Kick Off Party - Metro
Butthole Surfers - The House that Gloria Vanderbilt - More TBA

Friday October 9th - Metro
Naked Raygun - No Empathy - More TBA

Saturday October 10th - Metro
Dead Milkmen - Teenage Bottlerocket - Teen Idols - Anxiety High

Sunday October 11 - Metro
Cock Sparrer - Lower Class Brats - Flatfoot 56 - Fear City

More Metro Shows will be coming soon!

Friday October 9th - Congress Theater
Murder City Devils - Dead Milkmen - Riverboat Gamblers - New Bomb Turks - The Frankl Project

Saturday October 10th - Congress Theater
NOFX - Cock Sparrer - 88 Fingers Louie - Youth Brigade - Off With Their Heads - Shot Baker

Sunday October 11th - Congress Theater
Screeching Weasel - Alkaline Trio - Pegboy - The Arrivals

Double Door October 8-10
TBA

Subterranean October 8-9
TBA

Cobra Lounge October 7-11
TBA

Seriously though...fuck the Congress. The two best shows are hands down (for me anyway) the 10th and 11th @ The Congress and I pretty much refuse to pay to get into that place. It's like trying to listen to a band inside of a tin can. The show on the 10th @ The Metro is fucking sweet too.

I think I'd have to go on the 10th and see Cocksparrer and Youth Brigade as Lower Class Brats, Fear City and Flatfoot 56 really suck.

There would be so many wanna-be street punks in studded leather belts, sporting 10-inch mohawks at that show. In other words, douches. I guess there would be douches at all these shows though.
