invest in a pick and some locking pepper. wax can help too but use it very scarcely. the shampoos and sprays suck, dont use those. they call all be found at

section off your hair into the sizes you want the dreads. you can even braid them to keep them in place temporarily. rub a bunch of the locking pepper into the section, and use a combination of rubbing, twisting, and using the pick. its going to take fucking forever so buy some beer for your friends and have them help you. they are going to look stupid at first, even when they are all "in", but its going to take tons and tons of your free time of constantly rubbing and twisting them until they look like "real" dreads. the ends are a bitch and will take the longest

the biggest thing to remember is to constantly run your hand through your dreads to seperate them, otherwise dreads will combine at the roots, and if left like this for too long they will not be able to be seperated. i learned this the hard way when i had dreads the first time, and had to chop them.

also, get one of those rasta hats. i have to wear one for work, but they actually help tighten your dreads when left in there for long periods of time.
