New NOFX album

Post by Nick » Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:51 am

So I guess it leaked. I found a link for it.

I wasn't too impressed from the samples I heard of it in the last few weeks, but it's NOFX. There should be a 1 or 2 great songs, a lot of mediocore songs and a couple turds.

Alright....so first listen through and this is much better than "Wolves", but it isn't their best effort, obviously. Pretty much what I expected from a new NOFX record. I could see this growing on me quite a bit. Some cool guitar work on a few songs.

i haven't heard a NOFX album since Pump Up The Valuum. they used to be my favorite band, but i can't stand them anymore. still love Ribbed and The Decline, though.
Even today, I can't see a car run a red light without instantly having an image flash into my head of a man's erect penis, penetrating a watermelon.

UGH I SUCK

Well, I guess the last thing I thought I'd ever hear in a NOFX song is a fucking Oboe, but it actually works pretty well.

After another listen, I think it most reminds me of a mid-90's NOFX, when they were about fun, with only dashes of seriousness thrown in. Where it seems their last few albums (post-Decline) they have taken themselves way to serious and political, with only a few dashes of fun thrown in. This seems to be a return to more fun than serious NOFX.

I like Punk In Drublic, but it seems like as of the past several years this band has gone off the deep end. I don't think the whole political thing suited them well. Stick to songs about beer bongs and making waffles with doc martens.

See when everyone was all political in the 80s they were all fun and then when everyone was fun they were political. I liked the last two records a lot. I'm downloading this but I already paid for the pre-release a while back, so I'm guilt free.

Just found this as well. Some of the new songs played live, some old. Free download, and videos of it.

Acoustic version of "My Orphan Year" is fucking incredible.

1. Fleas
2. The Quitter
3. My Orphan Year
4. Hold It Back
5. I'm Telling Tim

I think it's been a month or so.

A true sign if it is a good record is where or not it makes me want to go out and stinking drunk. This record makes me want to have an alcoholiday, have breakfast at Dali's and then hit sit on the stoop and drink till lunch.

nofx has and always will pretty much rule. a lot of shity ass songs, albums, eps, etc though. nonetheless, you cant touch the decline, punk in drublic, white trash... etc. oh and ill just go ahead and put my balls out there and say that i absolutely LOVE heavy petting zoo. great fucking album, motherfuckers. but yeah, they kinda lost their edge after 1999 or so... i havent bought an album of theirs for ten years or so, but i've heard enough to know that they still pump out a few gnarly tracks with each release... overall, great band and a huge influence on what i've tried to do as a "musician" or whatever. blah.
i fucking rule.

After first listen, I thought most of the songs were pretty fun and enjoyable. I kinda wish there were more fast songs though. Lot of mid-tempo stuff, seems like they got lazy and didn't wanna slam out the super fast jams anymore.
....just kidding.

Well that will be a while. I work or have my son. Wouldn't trade it for a million drunken nights but I don't work till 3pm. So usually I can go till about 3am and not be hung over at work.

"Crustin'... a way of of life for heroines. And heroes who hitchhike the road to Eden. Not Eden like the garden state. Eden like the state of mind..."

Tell me Fat Mike isn't a world class poet! Or actually even the punchline of that song is so good:

"...not freedom like America, freedom like a shopping cart..."

Heavy Petting Zoo for life!

I'd put Heavy Petting Zoo in my Top 5 Nofx albums for sure. Great stuff.

It would probably look like this:

1. Punk in Drublic
2. Decline
3. Heavy Petting Zoo
4. White Trash
5. Ribbed
