Re: Soo uhh.. how about those elections?
well, its a state prop so obviously it will only affect animals raised in california, but i remember when cali was the only place with legal medical grass. i guess in the scope of things it seems pretty trivial, but i consider it a step in the right direction.

yeah. prop 2 is definitely a nice step.
however... all the same sex marriage propositions getting shot down is a GIANT FUCKING STEP BACKWARDS.
it's so disheartening.

prop 2 is a good step. though it's important to note that direct action, taken on behalf of concerned citizens, is what gives these propositions teeth.

Re: Soo uhh.. how about those elections?
You know a lot of this would end with taking the word marriage out of it. I know that is fucked and it would not allow equal rights but it would be a step in the right direction to call it civil union instead. Marriage means ordained by God to a lot of these fucks.Smoking Guns wrote:yeah. prop 2 is definitely a nice step.

Re: Soo uhh.. how about those elections?
There should be no legal term of marriage. Marriage is a religious institution and therefore should be irrelevant to the legal system. Instead, all couples wishing to be legally joined should be recognized as such under civil unions. Then, if desired/applicable, the couple could have a religiously recognized marriage. To me, this seems like the best course of action.DaVo wrote:You know a lot of this would end with taking the word marriage out of it. Re: Soo uhh.. how about those elections?
The thing is that for some reason many of the Gay rights groups are not interested in the term civil union. I think it's a hang up on words. I think it doesn't matter what it is called as long as it's equal.Shane wrote:There should be no legal term of marriage. Re: Soo uhh.. how about those elections?
I always thought marriage was supposed to be between two people and God, if they believe in a God. I never understood the reason the government needs to be involved in the first place except for the money they collect from marriage licenses and all the money lawyers make later when half of these people get divorced.. If two people want to go to a church and get married, it's their business and not the government's.

Eh. The fools who voted for prop 8 and others like it will fall on the wrong side of history, as they always do, soon enough. Just not this election.
Democracy moves slowly when it comes to civil rights, but eventually they will do the right thing.

Re: Soo uhh.. how about those elections?
well... it's not equal if you still say things like, "you can do this, but you can't do it the same way we do it." but regardless... like shane is saying, unless you're willing to give same sex couples the EXACT same rights as opposite sex couples, then you really do need to get the word marriage out of the legal system completely. we can ALL have the same rights to civil unions. if religions want to then be exclusive and backwards, let 'em. that's what they've been doing since they were first dreamt up anyway.DaVo wrote:The thing is that for some reason many of the Gay rights groups are not interested in the term civil union. yes. i agree. but after big things like a supreme court officially declaring it unconstitutional to ban gay marriage, and then people still deciding to ban it, well... it just makes me sad that we are really that shitty and unable to progress.robdigi wrote:Eh.
