SO who went and how was it? I was pissed my car shit out on me and couldn't make it!!!
Re: Fucked Up! OCT 22 at the Picador in Iowa City
God damnit, I got sick and couldn't go. I hate my body.
....just kidding.
Re: Fucked Up! OCT 22 at the Picador in Iowa City
You should be really angry at your body, Derek. Fucked Up was totally awesome. Their singer is one of the best frontmen I've seen in a while. Very good times. And Quick Fix made it happen too.

Review by percentages.
It was fine. They played all the right notes and Damien was pretty funny taking off his jeans without taking off his shoes and other comedic shenanigans.
I was psyched to hear Baiting the Public, David Comes to Life, Crusades, Police, Circling the Drain.
However, they were giving like 70% when I compare this show to the 2 or 3 other times I've seen them play. In the past they seemed excited about playing their songs. As josh will say "That's their new thing to not care or not try or be cool or whatever you want to call it." I guess its cool to not try and not care, but if that's the case I would have rather see Damien set up a tour where he plays all Chuck-E-Cheese or Showbiz Pizza restaurants and puts a fucked up tape on the PA and just sings along with the vocal-less songs or just sing over top of the albums like karaoke style because the bands looked like a bunch of robots anyway. And a bunch of weirdly moving Chuck-E-Cheese robots would be 1000 times more entertaining. To clarify I'm not talking about the band doing jumps, kicks, guitar swings around the back or any of that nonsense. You can just tell when someone actually cares about what they are doing, and the majority of the set, fucked up was going through the motions. If you aren't sure what I mean, go to youtube and watch any Joe Strummer/Clash live video. Any live footage I've ever seen of Joe Strummer he has been 100% into whatever he is playing, and he doesn't really move around or anything. He just strums his guitar, and the man is a ball of energy. For a hardcore comparison watch any Converge Video, always 100% into what they are doing at all times.
The addition of the third guitar didn't really seem to help much. I figured there would have been some massive layering going on, but the new guy just seemed to be playing along with the guitarist on the other side of the stage. Maybe the new guy is only there to do back up vocals or something.
With all that said, Fucked up was still better than 75% of punk or hardcore bands out there. I would have just liked to see them care about what they were doing.
