Britain Adopts Islamic Law, Gives Sharia Courts Full Power to Rule on Civil Cases

Islamic law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through county courts or the country's High Court, a part of its Supreme Court system.

Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims.

Politicians and church leaders expressed concerns that this could mark the beginnings of a “parallel legal system” based on sharia for some British Muslims.

Dominic Grieve, the shadow home secretary, said: “If it is true that these tribunals are passing binding decisions in the areas of family and criminal law, I would like to know which courts are enforcing them because I would consider such action unlawful. British law is absolute and must remain so.”

Well, at least we can say that Britian was great once. No other people in the world can claim the same sort of achievements as the Anglo-Saxon/Celtic inhabitants of that island and those descended from them abroad (including most of the US, Canada and Australia), but yet they feel the need to adopt laws from people who shit in holes in the ground, beat their wives and ride around on donkeys. "Smashing" logic.

I don't see a problem with Sharia law being applied in domestic situations where both parties agree (which is what has been adopted, from what I gather), but criminal law? That excerpt is short on details so I can't gather to what extent this truly reaches. None of the articles pulled up in my brief Google search had any objectivity.

Anyway, Sharia law only applies to those who practice Islam... so it's not like your average English chap has much to worry about. It's not like your muslim neighbor is calling in the Imam to arbitrate a feud over your guests taking up the parking spaces in front of their house.
