This has been my favorite so far. I tried to see them last week but the show sold out.storkus wrote:Fleet Foxes - Selftitled

Re: Albums of the Year So Far: 2008 Edition
I listened to this at work the other day. I think I have just lost almost all interest in hip hop music. Because this did nothing for me. I haven't heard a hip hop album in a few years that really captivated me. And I can't even remember what the last one was.storkus wrote:Wale - The Mixtape About Nothing
I don't really have an album of the year.. I think I have only listened to a couple albums from this year and nothing has really struck me hard.

Misery Signals - Controller
Off With Their Heads - From the Bottom
Saviours - Into Abaddon
The new Young Widows sounds like it will be up there at the top.

Re: Albums of the Year So Far: 2008 Edition
ok, here are my nominations.
Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band - X-Ray Spirit
genre-hopping organ-led pop music. super energetic and fun.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxHLkVLsSNc
Deerhunter - Microcastle
the closest thing to a traditional indie rock album that I have enjoyed in a while. reminds me of the Pixies at times. sometimes ethereal, sometimes psychedelic. this isn't like their other records.. far less experimental. few if any samples or synths. I don't think this officially comes out until October, but it's out there on the internets. there aren't yet any videos from this one.
No Age - Nouns
fast, short, loud songs. while they barely hold onto some good pop sensibilities in the meantime, it's mostly cathartic thrashing. very simple, very good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n368OU17cz0
Poni Hoax - Images of Sigrid
throwback post-punk with a disco-house influence. some anthemic sing-along choruses.. but it remains pretty dark throughout.

I was going to list that, but all those songs were out in 07. Still awesome. A staple in the bike ride boombox.creepykid wrote:Cool Kids "the Bake Sale"

Clouds - We are Above You
many were turned off by their first release "Legendary Demo", and if you were one of them you still owe this record a chance. Less tom-foolery, more straight up killer riffage and rock n roll face melt.
Giraffes - Prime Motivator
Sex Rock at it's finest
Fatal Flying Guilloteens - Quantum Fucking (A Fictitious....)
Texas sleaze rockers back with another booze soaked offering. This may come off wrong but think Jesus Lizard with sass but without a lack of balls.
Imaad Wasif w/ Two Part Beast - Strange Hexes
If you don't remember me freaking out about this band before, look it up.
Young Widows - Old Wounds
Even though it hasn't come out yet, and i haven't heard a lick of it, it's destined to go into my top 5 for this year. Settle Down City was everything I've wanted out of a band for a long while and the early reviews of Old Wounds are getting me so pumpt.
i'll probably think of more.
