See Sound and Fury is a good record but I could never get past all the silly rap stuff. Plus their best song isn't on the record, which I never understoud.

I forgot the Bad Brains but it's hard to limit to just 5 albums.

Toxic Reason was by far one of the hardest working and most over looked bands to come from the 80s. Though live they tended to play too long but still a great show.

against the grain is simply bad religion's best album, hands down. no contest. not even close. no control and suffer are probably tied for second. suffer gets points for being the "breakthrough", but no control gets points for adding some nice refinement to what suffer was. Against the Grain, however, was simply the absolute perfection of the Bad REligion formula. Ultimate. Every second of every song (seventeen i believe!) from start to finish is really just superb. No Control was definitely still in the devloping stages... mostly straight up awesome but mixed in with a few weakies (i.e. the world won't stop, anxiety, sometimes it feels like....).

It's just the plain and simple truth, dudes.

Sorry I will always like the pre-85 stuff before they went "Into the Unknown". The first EP is hands down their best stuff. It took me a long time to listen to the newer stuff without disappointed. In a lot of ways it's two different bands. Though the new stuff is still better then most of what came out in the last 10 years.

Yeah Dagnasty was great even some of the later stuff. DC has at least four or five that could be in there Minnor Threat, Bad Brains, Scream, GI, etc..

Then there is NYC with the Ramones, The Heartbreakers LAMF, Reagan Youth, Agnostic Front, etc... UK with the UK Subs, Buzzcocks, Clash, The Damned, etc... The Midwest with Naked Raygun, Effigies, Big Black, etc...

It will always be hard to name just 5. Unless it would be local bands.

No Control, Suffer and Against the Grain are all Bad Religion records. They Broke up in 85 or 86 while recording this awful metal record called Into the Unknown and then got back together and recorded Into the Known followed by Suffer which I think came out in 88. I remember being excited to hear it and then glad when I heard Eric G.'s copy that I didn't pay for it. They made a major change in their sound, a lot cleaner, less aggressive. It really wasn't what I was hoping for. Like I said two different sounds, two different bands.

I believe they are talking about Rites of Spring - End on End. Never really gave them much of a chance after hearing the ST years ago. I have to say I'm not sure I have in fact heard End on End. By the time it had come out, I was avoiding the DC arty anti-punk post hardcore stuff. Though I do know that it is often thought as a fore runner for Emo though I think Embrace beat it to the punch 5 years earlier.

Yeah and I thought I had it but after just checking, I know at some point I had a copy but most have sold it or it went missing along with a bunch of records and the girl I was seeing at the time. You know Stout may have a copy.

I always felt like Embrace didn't get the credit they earned. A great record that is completely over looked and really set the sound for most of the emo bands that came after.

Another over looked Discord band is Nation of Ulysse
