Isn't that pretty much what goes on Sunday nights at the Lift anyway?
I guess having you dudes spinning records would be better than letting that old dude Jack run the show all night.
I miss Sundays there.

Re: Would you support a new Venue
a bigger version of the Mews would be nice. that place sucks if the band playing there has any sort of popularity (AS IF! okay, I kid)
sooooo basically, a place with the musical variety of the Mews with a larger stage, more capacity, and larger bar.
...good luck with that.

Re: Britain Adopts Islamic Law, Gives Sharia Courts Full Power t
I don't see a problem with Sharia law being applied in domestic situations where both parties agree (which is what has been adopted, from what I gather), but criminal law? That excerpt is short on details so I can't gather to what extent this truly reaches. None of the articles pulled up in my brief...

Re: homers closing
Record collector comes to mind. There's a good hip hop record/head shop somewhere in the ghetto, but the name escapes me. It's been 3 years or so since my last trip there... anyway, compared to what we have in Des Moines: WORLD CLASS SHIT

Re: homers closing
I speak the truth kids. I love Des Moines, but these days, it just isn't a town where that kind of shit can succeed. In my 15 years of buying music in Des Moines there has never been a record store of the caliber you see in Iowa City, Minneapolis, KC, or any other surrounding population centers. You...

Re: homers closing
This is a touchy subject for me. I've been to so many cities that are even smaller and lamer than Des Moines.. but they have good record stores with plenty of clientele. I suppose most of them are college towns, but that shouldn't matter as long as you have the population to support them... which De...

Re: homers closing
I'm from West Des Moines, but I traveled to People's or ZZZ if I wanted to buy something from a store. I ordered just about everything else online. Even when you are from the suburbs, you know that they are NOT the place to look for anything outside the mainstream. Growing up there, I can assure you...

Re: homers closing
Yeah, I don't know how they could have expected any kind of success in the suburbs. Probably would have made it in the Drake area or downtown... where people who care about music enough to choose an independent place over Best Buy live.

Even with republican politicians currently in office, MN is still demographically a democratic stronghold. The DFL is alive and well.. plus, Franken will be taking Coleman's place soon enough.

Very cynical choice. "Who will get me elected" rather than "who is best to lead the country should I die or otherwise vacate the presidency". Undercuts the inexperience argument.
Epic failure.

Yes, we disagree about that, but Iraq is one small piece of a very large puzzle making up our foreign policy and the defense of our country.
When shit actually hits the fan, we can still count on our allies, and on our citizens coming together in support of our defense.
