well, that's gonna sound bad too. those things never work very well unless you are in the middle of nowhere... too much interference from real stations.

also, use good headphones. the ones that come with ipods are cheapo and will sound bad no matter how you encode your music.

sound quality is determined by the type of encoding used. if you aren't creating the MP3s yourself, chances are they are going to sound like shit due to shitty encoding. look for stuff labeled V0 or 320kbps. these are higher quality encodes. the best way for a layman to go is just rip your own stuff...

You don't need to run IM clients in the background with push notifications. That service isn't live yet, but I've tested it with AIM and it works really well. I played with one yesterday.

It's a good try, but doesn't live up to the iPhone. Feels cheap, OS is too gimmicky. OS X for iPhone is kind of gimmicky, but the gimmicks are aimed at usefulness rather than flashiness. Plus, keyboards are for n00bs.
