I've been asking myself the same question.

The Yelps played in the spring and they were really good but more on the 90s alternative side.

Glitter Density also played a show in the spring. More of a singer songwriter thing. Good though.

Bad Turtle is another young band but mostly metal. Nice kids and with time could have some promise.

Underdog Story from Ames have a good blend of pop punk but I think are more college age.

George's Bush is a band from Green Bay that played that last Have Nots show. They were a straight head early to mid hardcore punk band and I have to say I'd love to see about 10 of those pop up in Des Moines.

The thing is that I keep seeing a younger and completely different crowd at shows that doesn't seem interested in being defined as Punk or Hardcore or whatever. The only really high school crowd I've been seeing is at shows like I Prevail, SWMRS and Time Atlas. Mostly young internet obsessed girls that think the bands are "cute" and the boys that follow them. Then again what do I know, I'm 47 and rarely spend anytime at any show at venues other than Lefty's. I just wish Des Moines could produce a couple high school bands like George's Bush or Radkey.
